I bet. But to be fair, PnR without movement, especially when the roll guy isn't a competent scorer, is just ISO with a pick. Some of Harden's PnR when Lin wasn't on the floor looked very much like ISO with a pick. Anyway, too much ISO is never a good thing in this age of no illegal defense rule.
Does it? I was fairly certain that PPP was only measured by shots taken, so if a player would pass the ball out a ISO, the possession would have no impact on the player's PPP. That's why I don't/didn't think PPP is a great stat to measure whether or a certain action should get run more often. The only thing that matters is the effectiveness of the set itself. It does no good if player X puts up great PPP numbers in a certain set, but the set isn't any effective if player X doesn't get a shot up.
I wasn't very clear as I was using the absolute of "always" passing. In detail in terms of passing, PPP is measured not only in terms of points from attempted shots, but assists that RESULTS in a score, as well as rebounding. For example, if you pass the ball out and it goes to another player that ends up scoring, that factors into PPP. If you pass the ball out and it does NOT end up in a score, that also factors into PPP. The actual statistical methodology for calculating PPP is fairly complex, so I'll just link you to a basic primer on the concept. http://www.rawbw.com/~deano/methdesc.html As for individual PPP calculations, let's just say they get... complicated.
Less, but not that much less. He is very effective with the ball in his hands. There needs to be more movement though and less standing around when he has the ball.
My apologies for not being clear with my question. I was referring to the Blazer's coach and not Mchale. Since it was an iso play.
hmm, maybe, just maybe harden is as good as we thought he was after the first two games? sadly, it does look like we have overpaidour back court...
A little less iso plays for Harden and give him more of the similar type of plays like Kevin Martin where he can come off screens and able to utilize his offensive game better than going iso all the time or pick and roll.
Less. He will get the best defender from everytime - every game. Go back to the fast-paced Lin run offense - the one that beat OKC in preseason and the one that was there when Harden ad-libbed it in Game 1 and 2.
Im sick and tired of watching him bounce the ball until the shot clock goes down to a few secs. Then he takes a low % shot, makes a pass to guy with no time left to shoot or just results in a turnover. He should make his move earlier in the shot clock. Also play off the ball more. We know he can do it.
I also feel the same. I think Harden is great in open court or when the defenders are on their heels going backward. Denver had a game plan. They were waiting for him once he goes by the pick. But in this game, he couldn't even go by the pick, Iggy was all over him. If he did, they had 2 guys in the paint waiting for him. Harden need to realize that before he is stopped, he needs to pass the ball earlier to the other side. He finally started to do that towards the end of 4th quarter. He needs to be able to trust his teammate and he doesn't have to score every time he touches the ball.
Neither, take what the defense gives him. In order for him to be effective, Lin seriously needs to step it up. Camping in the corner like Jeremy Battier isn't going to cut it. To be fair though, I'm not sure if this is one of McHell's play calls or lack thereof.
I agree...... Iso plays become ineffective when done too often, regardless of who is handling the ball. (Except for maybe Michael Jordan.) It is the single biggest killer of "team chemistry".
