Congrats on your citizenship! I agree with your premise. I would further add that the republican party will have to do some serious soul searching in order to become a party that contends in the future. It allows itself to be defined as anti gay or anti immigrant or anti woman because of its positions in these issues. It must either become more moderate with regards to these things or face becoming a minor party. It may take a generation for it to rid itself of this reputation, but if it ever does it will be back in contention.

It doesn't matter what the state decides, federal drug laws take precedence, even if it was just for medicinal use (and laughably, even if it was homegrown).
Agreed. I'm a liberal but I would really like to see a congress where moderates from both parties are able to work together. I see the value in dissenting opinions and honest debate and compromise.
Marriage Equality referendums have been called as passing in Maryland and Maine and is winning in Washington.
I hope this is the wake up call that finally gets the more moderate Republican majority to take control back from the extreme minority now in charge. What I'm concerned about is that they will blame this loss on Romney and tactics, not on Republican policy.
Of course. I've voted Republican before- nothing wrong at all with Republicans, just the extremist views from some of them (and that goes for extreme Democrats, as well). I congratulate your candidate on a hard-fought race- unlike others, I applaud Mitt Romney for his successes and wish him the best in all his future endeavors.
