Yeah, the Rockets valued him so much that the team traded him for a 2nd round pick! Before Linsanity, Novak was a journeyman. He was traded or released by four teams in 5 years. The Knicks was his 5th team in 7 seasons. He was earning the minimum and averaged in low single digit in PPG. He broke out during Linsanity because of Lin's assists. His strength in 3pt shooting might always be there, but his weaknesses (inability to create shots by himself, poor defense) were always there as well. Before Linsanity, no one valued him above the league minimum. After Linsanity, he got a 4 year fat contract. Even Novak would admit that his breakout was assisted by Lin. To say otherwise is just an overreaching attempt to discount Lin's contributions.
two things. 1. I don't expect non Rocket fans to highly regard "the streak" or even know about it. 2. At least the TOFs admire the streak, albeit having the team accomplishment twisted into some individual accomplishment. individual accomplishment = mvps, scoring titles, triple doubles etc team accomplishments = winning streaks, championships,
Reminder: Thread title is "Lin's scrutiny" - please forward participation of "the streak convo" to the official tinman streak thread. The scrutiny comes from being an Asian point guard. As much hype as Lin got for being Asian, he also gets the strangest criticism for being Asian. I've never seen anyone get evaluated the way Lin does. If he weren't Asian, and Linsanity happened, everyone would, and I mean EVERYONE would talk nonstop about the kid's potential. But because he's Asian and people still can't get used to the idea of a good Asian point guard, the second he had his first bad game during Linsanity, half of the basketball world saw him as a finished product...at 23 years. One flawed game, and it was "career back up" and "go back to the D-League."
Like others have said, it's confirmation bias. Say he was drafted #1, I don't think his race would matter. I like Kyrie Irving -- think he's great -- but it's funny how he's ranked dead last in defense, but Lin is the one who can't defend worth a damn. Chris Paul prefers going right; defenses try to force him left -- but nobody says he can't go left bc he's Chris freaking Paul, not some "d-league scrub." I don't think Lin is as good as those two, but I just find the criticism interesting. I also think while Lin can be an impact player, his game doesn't look very smooth or flashy, and his demeanor lacks swag, so it isn't what people are used to from good NBA players.
You know why TOFs admire the streak? Because he was on that Rockets team that year (albeit he was injured for part of the streak)!!! Expecting fans of Jeremy Lin (or any other non-Rockets player) to know it was Novak who hit a game-winning 3 in one of the 22 game streak (despite not doing much in the other 21 games) is like expecting a Red Sox fan to know the name of a minor reserve on the Oakland A's 2002 streak team. But hey, if you can find something to criticize fans of Lin (who may or may not be trying to become fans of your Houston Rockets) ... you must as well throw it out in a post. As ridiculous as the logic sounds ...
LOL!!!! TOFs (here in Clutchfans) are FAR FAR FAR from "team only fans"! you know that planet Pluto? that's how far it's from "team only"
leebig.. hit it on the spot with his post earlier in this thread.... The scrutiny has nothing to do with Lin personally, it has to do with some of his fans. The same went with the YOF and TOF. I think Lin has done a good job so far. I'm not a huge fan; but Lin has held his own. But some of Lin's fan make it hard to cheer for him, they make him bigger than life, think he can do no wrong and no matter if another player had a great game they still have to make him the center of attention. So please don't think this has anything to do with race or culture.. This has all to do with the fan base... This is the same that happen with Yao and T-Mac. T_Man
he just needs to finish better at the rim and stop having awkward shots because he didn't know if he was shooting or waiting to make a pass
Um I have only seen a 1 idiot post,...where a Lin fan was blaming Harden for a dumb play at the end of the game, and then not talking about a stupid Lin Alley oops pass 2nd last possession on the regulation time... can you point out others that you are blaming LOFs for? "they make him bigger than life" from what I have seen of LOFs they think he is a good young player at best with potential.. his draw to me... isnt that I think he is the best basketball player ever and ever and ever it is "RUDY" type of draw for me a Harvard grad who should have been on Wall street, instead of sleeping on his brothers/teammates couch waiting for a NBA career
I have noticed the ones with a bias against LOFs, will it seems like skip a post that the LOF is replying to with stats...freak out about a certain stat posted even when the LOF in most cases is replying with stats to the stats the original poster made and the original posters comments are being quoted...
he needs a shoot first past second mentality again... this deferral/pass first mentality Lin has, is no help to his teammates... as defenders will inch closer to his teammates and not inch closer to him, when he drives...
I don't think there's any Harden Only Fans or fans who were OKC fans who switched to the Rockets to watch him play. I think it's an imaginary figment of some fans' imagination to justify their group's new existence on a Rockets fans board. When Ron Artest joined the Rockets, Indiana Pacers fans didn't suddenly become Rockets fans. Nor did all of Queensbridge sport the Red Nation logo.
I'm a Les Only Fan. Any team he owns, I'll support. As for people being harsh on Lin: if it bothers you, ignore it.
Well, but that is enough for some drama queens to make it sound like this board is being invaded by 4 billions of Lin fans. This idiot obviously has no idea about the population of Asia.
