Why aren't the rookies playing?

Playing helps learn things about game speed and how to adapt. Learning fundamentals like defensive positioning are not learned on the fly. Being put in a bad situation can cause a player to learn bad habits. Morris, Patterson, and Landry are all guys who learned a lot while not playing.

the guys we're playing are young anyways, so why not play the rooks? it's baffling because it does seem that they can contribute. why are playing an 8-9 man rotation right now? way too early.

Strength is the key to why his post game will not work in the NBA right now (keyword here). Half of the battle is jostling for position, and he is clearly undersized, even for a PF. If he gets push out near the short corner or to the elbow, how is he supposed to get his good-looking hookshot off? I have seen his workout videos, his post moves, his SL action, his floor stretching (which is not up to par quite yet, but can be excellent in the future). For those to be effective, he has to put on weight; but right now, it will be a mixed success to be VERY generous.

Defence is critical to playing time. Why parsons played last year and Morris did not. Why they traded away Brooks. Why the rockets signed Asik. It is huge and often forgotten or not understood by the average NBA fan.

They don't need to be replaced, but when anyone gets into foul trouble or if they can't play through a rough spot,it's better to bench them.
Jones is the only rookie who is talented enough to make a difference in my
    opinion at this point.

I agree Motiejunas's strength hurts him on offense in post, but I think he could play there offensively now even if he gets pushed around some. If he could defend his position, he would be playing.

I like that the Rockets develop players slowly. I'm surprised Jones hadn't played at all. I'm also surprised Morris has been this good. White, Motiejunas, and Machado probably won't see playing time for quite awhile.

Right, but we haven't gotten into any foul trouble. In the blazers game, nobody but morris shot well, so it is hard to replace/bench everybody. The we would have a lineup of Douglas/Machado/Jones/White/DMo (not serious, just for giggles). And Harden twisted his ankle in game, which is why he didn't shoot as well.

Is this serious? Were you watching the same game? Aldridge had 27 pts on 29 shots. Ppat had excellent defence on lamarcus.

Douglas must have photos of McHale having sex with farm animals to be playing as many minutes as he is.

I think Machado and Motiejunas need playing time. Machado for all his defensive flaws is a much better option for backup PG. In preseason, whenever he was in the game the offense looked a hell of a lot better than with Douglas. Motiejunas is the best post player on the team. The team in all honesty has no low post threat. Motiejunas will be able to provide consistent scoring for the bench.

If I had my way the rotation would look like this:

    PG: Lin/Machado
    SG: Harden/ Delfino
    SF: Parsons/ Morris
    PF: Patterson/ Motiejunas
    C: Asik/Motiejunas

Yes, Asik in this workout video shows the same quickness, agility, fundamentals, variety of moves and soft touch like D-Mo thus proving that workout videos are meaningless #sarcasm:

Tell me that this guy can't do a post up in the nba. Look at that fake spin, its so smooth. This move against little resistance shows his good scoring skills! Look at that hookshot, despite the fact that it is just a couple feet away from the basket like DMo's and one rarely shoots that shot in a game. Seriously, workout videos don't show scoring skills.

Could be because they want to use Morris and Patterson as trade bait, therefore the Rockets have to inflat their value before the trade deadline. I am sure if they were losing, things would've change. Why not play Morris and Patterson to show case their value so maybe the Rockets can pick up another star type player before the trade deadline? I would be surprise if the rooks doesn't see some major minutes after the trade deadline.

Fans would always want to see the new comers and such but ultimately the Rockets are doing what's in their bet interest.

We added a new player 3 days before the season started. White hasn't proved to be in game shape, what exactly were y'all expecting? The rookies need time, be patient. Obviously, McHale went with the players he thought could win. You guys always act like there is a conspiracy against rookies, they don't even know thier plays or defensive rotations at this point. Why should they be on the floor?

Having said that I bet Machado plays first, then Jones, then White (if his bus makes it on time).

The average age on this team is 23 who really knows where to be on defense and offense right now the whole team is full of new players and the rockets have not been to the playoffs in 3 years or with Kevin McHale as a coach... Heck Kevin McHale hasn't led a team to the playoffs as a coach. Saying all that to say with the current state and situation this team and franchise is we should play whatever rookies that are best. Terrance Jones is definitely the best power forward on this team so at the least he should be backing up Patterson while he learns. Parsons learned while he started as a rookie so I don't know if McHale still thinks it is 1986 but he needs to get off the BS and put the better player on the floor and you know that better by giving players a chance in live game time action.
