Great post. I agree with all of this. There are a lot of wacky factors involved in all things Jeremy Lin. Wish more new members were like you.
Are you fu¢king $hitting me? You don't need to call me out, you don't need to censor me from giving my thoughts about players in the NBA or on this team. The problem with this board, is that some veteran posters on this site have chosen to group all new fans the same, as you have mentioned. Rather than judging people on the content of their individual posts, they simply evaluate the credibility of a poster by the join date, regardless of the arguments they make on threads. Your opinion that Lowry is better than Lin, is your opinion. These things are debatable, like if Harden was worth the package that Houston sent to OKC (less debatable after two games). If my posts are ridiculous, people should judge me, not you on my ridiculousness. My posts are not representative of LOFs or you, so stop trying to be apologetic for my words. I'm a big boy, and I know what I'm saying and why I'm saying it. Is this motherfu¢king H.S. I feel like I'm talking to a bunch of kids. Giving Lin a bad name? Jeremy Lin is a class act, a humble young man who has fought haters all through his life. Did you hear people calling him Yao Ming in the Pistons game? Did you know that at Harvard, the opposing fanbase would call him all sorts of derogatory names during his games? When NY didn't match, did you see his twitter account blow up with those same names? You are not representative of Jeremy Lin, I am not representative of Jeremy Lin. You are just a fan like me, and we have zero effect on him as an individual, and a basketball player. Get that through your thick skull, I think I've told you this at least two times.
Way to break it down! Yeah, it has to do with a lot of these things. Race may also have a little to do with it, but pedigree (i.e., didn't come from big name basketball program) plays a big factor. Some people just can't accept the fact that someone like Lin, who came out of nowhere can actually be a very good player. http://jeremylintelligence.wordpres...atersdoubters-are-like-the-flat-earth-people/ But it's only a matter of time when these things go away as Lin steadily gets back into his form. I'm sure none of this bothers Lin, because he's so used to it by now.
Jeremy Lin is no way overrated. It's fine for fans of opposing teams to chant overrated because they're obviously rooting for their own teams. Chants like overrated or Jeremy Lin sucks are easy for everyone to follow along. However, the ones who really think Jeremy Lin is overrated are ignorants because they probably don't follow the NBA very closely. They think Lin is overrated because they are comparing him to star players such as: Kobe, LeBron, and star point guards like Chris Paul and Derrick Rose. Those are the ones who probably don't follow the NBA very closely and only knew about Lin because the media kept talking about him during the Linsanity run. So because Lin had so much hype it lead them to believe that Lin is amazing. Lin is not overrated because what Lin did with the Knicks was unheard of. Linsanity to me was about a undrafted young man who was about to get cut but then became a hero over night helping a team to win several games. How is that overrated? If that's something common than the NBA would be a joke.
First off, Marcus Morris has a whole thread dedicated to his one bad game (3-10). So yes, if you pay attention the criticism finds it's way around. Secondly, it's guy like yourself that build Lin up to be an elite point guard when he's not. Then when he performs less than the ridiculous expectations you've given him you blame his critics. You can't have it both ways. If you're going to hype him like he's a franchise cornerstone then don't get emotional if he never lives up to that. Lin fans want the best of both worlds
I've been reading a good amount of posts this past week, and I have not seen anyone label Lin as a franchise player. Yet I hear so many people state that Lin fans constantly do this. Find me a post rockyrhode of a non-troller, stating that Lin is a franchise cornerstone. You guys are making up justifications for your arguments based in fantasy land, and not reality. How do you guys come up with this shiat?
Agreed. Harden is definitely the more seasoned/polished of the two, but Lin and Harden really compliment each other. When one draws the double-team, he can throw the rock to the other and it'll be a game of 4 on 3. As for assists, while our backcourt is currently getting all the attention, I am impressed with Parsons' and Asik's passing skills too (Parsons with 6 dimes last night). Really love how the team is coming together.
It comes down to this: when people look at Lin, they don't see a freak athlete. They see a clumsy, nerdy basketball player. Based on built-up preconceptions, they automatically slot Lin as someone who does not belong in the league. So when Lin does something bad, they emphasis it to satisfy their ego. People hate to admit that they are wrong. They hate to admit to their friends that they are wrong because it would destroy their self-image and they would be mocked for it. That's very painful.
I guess to me the most interesting thing is that there seemed to very little love or support for Lin from the "old crowd". Even Yao had his local fans when he joined as I recall years ago. I just don't see anyone showing any sort of enthusiasm for Lin aside from the so-called new people who never cared for the Rockets before Lin. All I read at most is in the line of "I'll be open to accepting him only if he plays well." There's just no love there at all. This is why I feel, even more strongly now, that even if Houston wins a championship with Lin, the fans here will never love him like the NY fans did.
These people want the Rockets to tank so they can take joy with Lin failing as a PG, and they can beat their chest that the Rockets should have kept Dragic.
What does wanting to boo a professional athlete who's trying their best to perform the role he's been given say about your own shortcomings?
That's a pretty presumptuous statement there. Lebron was probably the most hated individual in all of sports last year. Now he's pretty much beloved by all since he stepped up big and won a ring with the Heat. Now, are you telling me that if the Rockets win a championship (something that they haven't done since 1996) would not earn Lin massive respect around the Globe, let alone the Rockets fanbase? Are you really that convinced that the "hate" for Lin would really supersede the love that comes with winning it all?
Douglas is not trying his best. He has shown no improvement for the past 2 years. I watched him with the Knicks. He does not work on his passing. He does not work on finding open teammates. He's a guy that is just happy to be there. If Douglas starts improving, then I will start praising him. I have no problems with that.
Trust me...if Houston win a championship with Lin they will love him. They will love the whole team. There are love and support for Lin. I honestly think there are more love and support for Lin than Yao. He still gets "Ohh" and "Ahh" when he scores regardless of where he plays. This is an internet forum and people hating on players will always be there. Don't let it get to you. Not everyone who support Lin is on clutchfans. Also, you really can't compare Yao and Lin. It's pretty ignorant to do so. Yao was drafted #1 and Lin was undrafted. Yao was a star player and Lin isn't. Don't let the Linsanity run confuse you.
I was a lin "critic" when we signed him. I didnt think he "deserved" his contract b/c i felt he wasnt "proven" enough. I was even labeled a hater even though i did credit lin with great upside and acknowledged positives about his game. That being said, I think he has played very well i dont understand his criticism. His turnovers are nowhere near and issue (so far) as they were in New York. I know its only been two games so far, but hes impressed me. His defense needs work however...
