I really don't care if it was Smith's doing or not. The Texans don't need an overpaid underperforming player.

The defense has been better without Mario.

No Ill will. Mario I wish you well In life and in football except when playing the Texans.

His legacy is that at least he wasn't Vince Young.

I believe Mario because when it came down to it, we couldn't afford him short of losing more starters and we lost a lot just to sign Foster and Meyers.

If we have forum members speculating on current players we are likely to give up to stay under the cap, I doubt Ric Smith wouldn't be aware of the full situation last off season and would make risky moves to retain Mario when we had Barwin and Reed perform so well last season.

That's fine, who ever was at fault, thank you. You did the team justice by not signing M.Williams. Have fun in Buffalo!

In football, it is a team game. The Texans lost Vicks, Dressen, FG kicker and traded D.Ryan, yet they sit with a 6-1 record. If Mario was smart, he should of kept his mouth shut, now Bills fans wonder if they are getting a committed player. He should of said he is proud of what they are doing instead of revisiting the NFL's side of business. I'm going to BOO the Texans if they don't put more than 5 TDs, the Bills are close to last in defense.

It's so true, like i said...you have to think if you are a Bills fan, and you just read that article...it makes you feel that you just picked up a supposed talent without the desire, without love for the game....by Mario saying, (he never wanted to leave, it was just the money received) makes Mario's status as a Bills teammate hollow. ...Even if his goal is not to play for something, not to leave a legacy...just to get more coin, he should have kept quiet... all that accomplished is piss off more Bills fans, i'm sure...I couldn't imagine being in the locker room, being a team mate, and realizing this guy doesn't really have a passion/desire/drive for football...I'm not even mad at Mario...it's just a shame ...

His comments just come off as myopic - like he doesn't see the big picture. In all honesty, that's really nothing new.

In that regard I don't see similarities to the Rockets landing Harden.

How do I figure that? Because it was obvious to everyone that Mario would get one of the richest contracts in the history of the NFL. The Texans had no shot at him...and everyone knew that, unless Mario was willing to take a massive pay cut, which he wouldnt (no one would).

Mario was a goner...so yes, the Texans really couldnt have done anything to keep him around...thus, they really made no effort because they were already handicapped with the cap.

Mario is what James Harden would be...if he had come out yesterday and put up 8 pts, 3 assists, 2 rebs and 6 turnovers.

    Then blamed a sore wrist.

Uh... he had 11 tackles, 5 of those were the sacks. He had two sacks against IND and two against PIT. In five games, you're calling that GOOD?

So in 3 out of the 5 games he registered a sack? Yes, that is excellent actually.

Terrell Suggs...sack in 8 out of 16 games last season. Sack in 9 games the year before.

Look at Dwight Freeney. Sack in 6 games last year...and sack in 8 of 16 games the year before.

Demarcus Ware had sacks in 12 games last season and 9 games the year before.

Clay Matthews...a sack in 5 out of 16 games last season...and a sack in 9 out of 16 games the year before.

So yes...Mario registering a sack in 3 of 5 games is actually on par or better than everyone I listed here, except for Demarcus and his 12 games of registering a sack last season.

Edit: And keep in mind, Mario got injured at the beginning of the 5th game, so he really didnt even get to play a full 5 games. More like 4 games and 1 quarter.

What about the tackles... or passes defended (only 1)? ^ 2.2 tackles per game is OK with you?

I completely disagree with emjohn's assertion that they cleared the decks to make a run at keeping Mario. I don't believe they ever intended to keep him because they knew what kind of money he was going to command and that he wasn't worth that much to this team.

They cleared the decks and kept Arian and Myers. Mario wasn't going to have the same cap number as Myers. Not a chance. I know during last season a lot of people kept suggesting that Mario was going to work out a team friendly deal to stay, but that was never going to happen.

You're talking about a DE that was being converted to an OLB...I would hope you could give more than a few games to allow him to adjust.

Demarcus Ware averaged one more tackle per game last season. Is that really something to be alarmed about? Mario did much better than anticipated last season and he was clearly adjusting and improving.

Pass rushing OLB's are judged by sacks, not passes defended....

the Texans didn't either. That's why he's no longer in Houston.
