This guy is not a Lebron. I would prefer to compare him to Durant. He's obviously very talented and will become a good NBA player at minimum. A little too early to call him "once in a generation" type player though. The hype machine has kinda gone overboard with him.................
True. Dude was compared to Bill F'n Russell a few times. http://www.nbadraft.net/players/greg-oden His score was higher than Wiggins. With the one year of college though a lot of these guys take a hit in the hype department. Used to be you come out of high-school with little weaknesses to your game because you dominated against kids...now you go to college and everyone gets to dissect you a bit more. I see every year these guys get hyped to the moon with the youtube highlight videos...and a year later they are being picked 6th or something.
As far as the Rockets go they need to start winning now for the sake of Daryl Morey's job... Even if Wiggins develops and becomes a superstar it won't be at least until his 3rd year in the league which would be 2016-17 NBA season by then Morey problaby wouldn't have been around if the Rockets don't start winning soon. The Rockets should try to pry away Aldridge from the Blazers or even Josh Smith from Atlanta for cheaper and still find a way to keep Terrence Jones around as a 6th man with Carlos Delfino coming off a pretty good bench... As far as how good Wiggins will be I think he can be as good as Dominique Wilkins with a more consistent jump shot...
They are always hyping some kid as the next big thing. This isn't new, we've seen it before. It's easy to hype a high school kid as it is difficult to create an objective evaluation due to the competition level they play at. Therefore, projecting the trajectory of a kids career is almost impossible to predict. That's why you always have people calling so and so the next big "fill in the blank" .
Of course they have to hype someone to keep the chatter going, but Wiggins' athleticism, handles, effortless hops and variety of perimeter scoring skills puts him on another level. That doesn't mean he'll live up to it. But he passes the "eye test" where it's easy to see him dominating at the next 2 levels. I usually don't go for overhyped guys. John Wall, O.J. Mayo and others who got too much press in HS didn't demonstrate anything close to what Wiggins has shown in televised games and highlights. The main question with him seems to be desire. Can't wait to see him against better comp in college. I'm already tired of watching his AAU circuit tapes.
The only weakness I see right now with Wiggins is complacement and his 3 pt shot is not consistently to the level where he can dominate... But thats it plus he has 1 more year to fix that and he will be a MONSTER by the time he goes to college if he develops his perimeter skills and handles with him being very aggressive... But thats nit picking at BEST due to his age at only 17 and being real good already... As far as an Athlete he is better than LeBron and that's sayign alot and he is more smooth and will be a better scorer...
But talking about Wiggins is a mute point if Hrden continues to play like he did against Detroit...Now all Rockets need is a stud PF and they can be real contenders...
With Florida St. losing to South Alabama yesterday, I don't see Andrew following in his father's footsteps to play for the Seminoles. Kentucky should be in the driver seat to land Andrew Wiggins.
I strongly believe that stud PF is already on the roster...Terrence Jones. McHale is an idiot for not playing that guy.
I'm going to seriously hate the team who tanks to get him (unless it's us, but that ain't happenin). Flipping one/some of our guys for an unprotected pick is just about our only option at this point (can't see an unprotected pick happening either )
"Bow down to him on Sundays. Salute him when his birthday comes". Get real people. Seriously. He is a college freshman. Can he play in the NBA? Maybe. Why a college player deserves 217 posts is beyond me.
