Agree, everything doesn't have to be about grabbing for the most. A happy medium should be what JJ strives for.
Disagree. When you're worth every damn cent - Make sure you get every damn cent. Wealthy people don't become wealthy by striving for happy mediums.
So Arian Foster is doomed to a future of poverty because he didn't holdout to get the highest runningback contract in the league?
Never said that. His contract works for HIM. The quote in my sig is actually from his press conference after he signed. My personal opinion and advice would be to get what you're worth while you're worth it.
They should do whatever makes them happy. If it is all about the benjamins, your advice would be correct. In football the money certainly matters more than in other sports where your body isn't beaten to mush. Money isn't everything.
Here's hoping JJ Watt never needs more than he is going to get. Somebody will make him a very wealthy man (technically, he already is).
The Texans treat their franchise players right (and the players know that). Look for a deal similar to Arian Foster's... not in relation to compensation, but timing. I think JJ would be happy to stay here for an upper level salary, unlike ol' Mario. JJ has a good head on his shoulders, and knows it is more than just the money. It is a team game and Rick Smith and the Texans have shown they'll happily pay players who are worth it, but they will not pay them so much it is detrimental to the team in the long run.
Need to sign Watt before his contract is up for sure. I don't mind paying the money for him because the biggest difference between him and Mario is that Watt goes hard every play.
I watch JJ Watt play. I don't know him personally, so I have no idea how much he wants (probably as much as he can get) or where he wants to play (hopefully here), but I give thanks that NFL ownership is smart enough to have a franchise tag, so fans don't have to constantly worry about losing their best players.
I don't think the Texans will wait to renegotiate until his last year and I don't see any reason Watt would wait either b/c he will get market value contract and don't think he wants to play elsewhere.
