Expected when you're good enough not to draw the worst announcers every week, but haven't had enough "elite" games to have the best announcers. Eagle/Fouts are the definite #3 team for CBS... but I'll take them over Gumbel/Dierdorf. Hell, Nantz/Simms aren't that "great" either... I feel they're the #1 team by reputation. To me, Brian Billick is the best "analyst" on TV... while Eagle or Thom Brennaman are the best pbp guys.
I hat those that chase the money when they could have stayed and still had money. To me it's better if he would have said. Sign me up. I want a reasonable contract not the most money so I can help the city win a championship since we are so close to being in the big show...he still is a 1 percenter and super rich BEFORE a new contract deal that he signed in Buffalo. Now if things go sour, he will likely be content to quit and sustain multiple generations on his guaranteed money alone. . . That's fine. I'd go for the money too...but I'm not in the business for a reason.. if being a football player and having passion matters, Mario could have done more...such a shame that he could take some lessons from Watt who has less but offers much more....
The artificial turf has arrived. http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexans/2012/10/astroturf-comes-to-reliant-stadium/
We're still using the same grass for Texans games, fyi. The turf is for college and potentially high school games.
Mark Berman @MarkBermanFox26 [rquoter]Bills DE Mario Williams still has issues w/ way he left the Texans: "I want the fans there 2 know entering free agency was not my decision." Bills DE Mario Williams on leaving the Texans, returning to Reliant & on Antonio Smith trying to get under his skin. http://tinyurl.com/cr7qt62 Mario Williams on Antonio Smith trying to rile him up: "Antonio is always picking & prodding. He's trying to add fuel to the fire." Mario Williams on fan reaction at Reliant Stadium on Sunday: "I definitely appreciate the support and I also appreciate the hate."[/rquoter]
Mario is full of ****. Didn't BM say we offered him a contract but it wasn't high enough and he wanted more on the open market? His first messages about having the date circled etc.....
He's probably referring to the fact he wasn't offered an extension earlier. He's right, that was partly our fault, but it was also an issue of terrible timing that sabotaged it. The lockout (e.g. uncertainty with the league and salary cap) and his injuries torpedoed any chance of us locking him up longterm before the end of his deal. I don't know why there should be bad blood between him, the organization, or the fans. Both parties did what was in their best interest. He got paid a truckload of money and we're winning games. What is there to be upset about?
Maybe entering FA wasn't his decision but I don't think the Texans would have or could have ever paid him what he wanted to be paid(not without sacrificing or letting go of some other players, which they had to do anyways, even with not bringing him back). Mario took one visit iirc and that visit was to Buffalo. Mario never left or got out of Buffalo. Where he might be right about not entering FA being his decision, Bob pretty much told those guys to go on the market, find an offer, and *hopefully* you'll come back to us and see if we can match or make a comparable offer. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=216646
I don't think that was quite the situation, at least not with Mario. I think that was the case with Myers, Briesel, Dreesen. With Mario, they tried to get him to sign ahead of free agency like they did with Foster, but Mario and his agent weren't about to stay at a discount. It was a given that once he became a FA, there was 0.0% chance that he would remain a Texan. What a lying sack of crap. This, after he spent all of March chattering about how he was leaving everything in the hands of his agent (playerspeak translation - I'm outta here chasing the cash, but don't hate me for it). Overall, who cares. This is a case of PR spin trying to dodge heat from the fans. Typical Mario can't own his actions like a man.
I'm pretty sure we didn't offer much of anything. Winston complained about the same thing. I'm fine with it, but the Texans were severely constrained by the cap last year.
There are no (legitimate) reasons for fans to hate Mario Williams. But I think they gave him plenty of reasons to dislike them. He wasn't, at various times: Reggie Bush, Vince Young, Reggie White... and it was always held against him. Ultimately, the Texans made the right choice - in 2006 and 2012. And while here, Mario was a good soldier and teammate. He wasn't endearing but he wasn't antagonistic, either. He received way more flak than he deserved. He's right - the Texans *could* have kept him. But I'm not sure that's what he wanted. He took the first offer and sprinted to anonymity. Fans can be disappointed he wasn’t Bruce Smith, 2.0 – but I don’t think he’s earned their derision, either. Having said that, he’ll be booed all afternoon. Unfortunately.
I don't get it either. He played well when he was here. He wasn't flashy, but he got plenty of sacks.
Yeah, the article says that and it was already announced beforehand when they bought the turf in the first place. I just stuck in the game thread cause I didn't feel like opening a new thread, was not implying it was for Texans games. Now people can stop b****ing about the grass conditions for the Texans games. ******************************* On the Mario crap, same old Mario. Someone needs to put a pacifier in his mouth.
Supposedly the offer on the table to Mario was like 10 million per year, obviously a completely worthless gesture considering the contract he got.
