JJ Watt AND Jason Pierre-Paul will both be free agents In 2015. Assuming they both keep up thier high level of play, can you imagine the $$$ that these TRULY elite pass rushers will demand? I hope Smith begins to examine this now. I know that no one knows what the salary cap will look like in 2015, but either way resigning JJ Watt will take a nice chunk of it.
Salary cap is going to explode by then so it should (in theory) be a little easier to make the numbers work.
Officially the 2nd player I want to spend his whole career as a Texan. But we're chasing a super bowl; this shouldn't be on Smith's mind until the offseason. Unless GM's do absolutely nothing after the trade deadline, I don't know, but I notice he's a lot more public the last season or two.
Watt isn't eligible for an extension until end of 2013 season. The Texans need to pick up the 5th year option to pay Watt top 10 DE Money. Also cap isn't likely to jump as high as some hope, if owners have it there way, it will go up by 5M most a year.
What's the most accurate outlook on this? I remember hearing the cap was supposed to rise drastically in 2013 but I also remember reading a more recent article about how that would no longer be the case. Any insight?
Maybe he will do like Foster and sign a contract both can be happy with instead of fighting for every nickel and dime.
