I mentioned this in the other thread, but what about looking at stretch 4s as well? Ryan Anderson, Ersan Ilyasova types. They'd be easier to acquire and are on much more friendly contracts that we wouldn't have to sacrifice as many rookies/depth to get and are young enough that they can still improve. Just thinking realistically with the superstar types off the table, I'd rather have Anderson/Ilyasova for 8mil a year than Smith on a max contract.
The only rookie I feel has a chance of becoming an all star in DMo, simply being a skilled 7 footer. The others have really slim chance. - White isn't totally committed to NBA. - Jones will have difficulty defending against leagues big PF's (Baby Davis). - Machado is great at passing and ball handling but weak everywhere else.
I would like to see K Love on the Rockets. He would be the perfect compliment to Asik in the frontcourt. Would anyone know if this is even possible and who we might need to give up to get him?
You say power forward and they'll instantly mention Josh Smith. Why? For defense? Sure he's multifaceted but what we need at the PF position is a legit post player. If we can throw any names out there, i can only think of two players i would spend on.. DeMarcus and LaMarcus Too bad they're the franchise's centerpiece for both the Kings and Blazers, respectively.
Rockets need to spend their cap space wisely, whoever Rockets choose to sign their stuck with that player....NO borderliners!...that means guys like , Millsap, Jefferson, Igoudala guys that are OK, but not true all stars! Rockets should be going after Chris Paul, Bynum, Love, Cousins, Aldridge, Smith..I'm willing to be patient and wait and see if one of these guys demands a trade. This next Max player will be the difference from being a championship contender or just a 1st/2nd round playoff exit. We need to get our rookies as many minutes as possible in hope one develops into an all-star. Guys like Tjones, Montiejunas, White..no d league!..throw them in the fire! Harden+2nd Max Signing+Allstar rookie+chemistry+coaching=contender. Rockets have a long way to go! Rockets must hit home runs in the draft and free agency to avoid getting stuck in mediocrity.
If you could get half of Kevin Love's production for half the price, would you? If it meant being able to keep 1-2 rookies for future development and cap space for depth? Ilyasova/Anderson don't look too different from Love based on the advanced metrics with the exception of defensive rebounding.
I would definitely give priority to a quality big. I don't see Josh Smith as the skilled post player the rockets need. Bynum has proven injury prone. Does cousins have the maturity to help this team contend? That leaves Love, Aldridge and of course Dwight. Dwight is far and away the best post player in the assoc. But he may not be available. Love and Aldridge would be good choices.
This is a good idea, Anderson...he's a solid player that would make us better now I think. But you do this and you sacrifice the development of D-Mo and Jones. You want a stretch four...D-Mo can hit shots and Jones has even hit a few...and Patterson has limited range too. I'd rather stick with those guys but it's a good idea if we didn't have so many young prospects at 4.
But there's a difference between paying borderliners close to max and paying borderliners 8 mil a year. If a superstar at max is not possible, do you look for quality players in the 8-10 mil a year range that might only cost you 1 rookie to obtain instead of all of them. I think if you can get a quality player on a friendly contract, that is the next best thing to signing a superstar, rather than sitting on unused cap space. Because if the contract is friendly enough, that player remains an asset later in a trade for a real superstar.
Why is everyone talking about Kevin Love as if we even have a chance? We have no shot, Minnesota would give up their roster 3 times over before looking to move Love.
Is David Lee even realistic or worth the time of day? reason I ask is that I saw the video of David Lee and J lin in that video where j lin went to his hometown aka home country
Oh yeah id like millsap over Lee but I was thinking we might have a better chance of lee and that video shows hes in talks with lin. I have no idea how lee's contract is though or if we can even do it.
Smith + Asik would be an Elite defensive front court..that would get us very close. Harden needs to become a superstar and I think he will given minutes and touches. We still need one of our rookies to turn into an all-star also. But what really helps us in our team is teams like the Lakers and Spurs are getting old. Nash, Kobe, Duncan, Ginobli..will probably be retired in two years that's when our team could break out if we play our cards right.
Had to check out Love. Love has a player option in 2015 and becomes an UFA in 2016. I don't that will work out for the Rockets and their plans. It seems like Love is out of the running if we are planning to go after someone next year. I still think he's the type of player we could use to pair with Harden.Too bad.
Asik and Smoove will destroy the backcoard and shotblocking galoure, but on the offensive end it will get super ugly.
Smith is a terrible offensive layer. He s a chucker who camps out on the 3pt line. He takes alot of shots at a average clip.
I think your over exgeratting. While I do agree that I do see him sitting around at mid range and 3 pt range. He has shown time to time he can nail that mid range consistantly. He's not chump at offense he's a strong player who can get in the paint alot of times and get some points. Not to mention he does decent on fastbreaks and can rebound decently. Asik can score and hes shown it in the pre-season
