When you look at this team's makeup and who we are going to have to beat to win anything...in my opinion the guy that makes the most sense is Josh Smith. Him, Asik, and Parsons give us the best defensive frontcourt in the NBA. When you combine those guys with guys like Lin and Harden on the perimter, smart guys that like to play the passing lanes and contest the dribble, I think you've got the makings of a breakout team. We obviously want to run. Smith is probably the best running 4 in the league. He does have post up game. And he sees the floor well. And he's probably the easiest available guy. All he has to do is tell Atl he's not re-signing there (which he may have already done) and they'll trade him for one decent young player. He's actually a few months younger than Lamarcus. And Morey has wanted him before. The question I have about acquiring him is could the Lakers actually go after him and offer up Pau Gasol to Atlanta?? Seems like a longshot with Kobe saying Pau is staying as long as he is there. But Josh is good friends with Dwight. He'd be great with Dwight and Steve in the PnR. And he's a better defender than Pau. Will be interesting to see what happens to him this season. But if Smith is traded here.....the playoffs will get real interesting with our interior D and perimeter O.
that may be one of the most stupid things i have read on here. I'm being serious too... Please tell me i'm not alone on this.
I would like demarcus cousins as well but I don't really think we could get him. Then again most said the same thing about Harden and look what happened
A follow-up trade at this point seems somewhat unlikely. I'm not sure we have the assets to snag a second star via trade. I could see us picking up Paul Millsap, Josh Smith, or Al Jefferson in free agency.
Good for you. I think Parsons can become a ELITE perimeter defender though. That's worth more than what Rudy Gay brings, especially since Parsons can score when asked. He's cheaper too.
Yes, it is r****ded. Rudy Gay is a chucker. We don't need a third player who wants the ball every play. We already have Harden and Lin. We need a PF who can play the pick and roll game to perfection, operate in the post, and play at least decent defense.
Gay's contract would do more harm than good. Much, much stupider things have been said on a daily basis, you're being harsh.
I say play this year out and see who might want to join the team after we show what the team brings to the table. That gives us time to see where Jones really stands and gives him a year to develop. If at the end of the year neither him or Patterson has shown that they can be the starting PF with compelling proof in their abilities, then you know you need a legit PF. by then, Love might be completely sick of Minny and want out so badly that they'll have no choice but to give it to him. And isn't that who we really covet over any other PF in the league? Points, rebounding, and leadership, and not to mention his uncle was in the Beach Boys LOL... Last point just a joke but if we jump the gun and go for someone else too soon, that chance could vanish and he ands up being trade to the Lakers for Gasol :/
Not to be mean or harsh or any of that jazz, but their is a good chance you post dumber things on here daily.
The post I quoted said Parsons + A young PF...way too much to give up for Gay. Gay's a good player, but not so good that he's automatically better and you have to mold a team to fit around him. He's a borderline all-star player not a perennial lock every year. Parsons is a really good player too and at 24 years old, me saying I'd rather keep Parsons than trade for Gay is not a knock on Gay, it's just Parsons is damn good. His defense is already great and defense is something that gets better with more experience as he learns what his opposition likes to do and how to make them more uncomfortable. He fits better with this team and I don't see a Harden+Gay duo going any where. As Fullcourt mentioned. Gay's contract is not good, I'm not even sure what the Grizzlies would get for it should they decide to ship him off...he would be our OTHER MAX player pretty much. That means our future would be entirely tied to that duo of Harden + Gay. Gay has reached his ceiling, he's in his prime now. His prime is a borderline all-star player. That's not a bad thing...but I think most here want to pair Harden up with a guy who is a perennial all-star or atleast has that potential. So yeah, I would not trade Parsons for Gay straight up. Don't think Morey would either.
I agree that I would trade Parsons for Gay straight up under NORMAL circumstances, No question Gay is a better player but the problem is we don't need a SF! By looking at the roster and our cap situation: 1. Parsons is on a cheap contract. 2. Rudy Gay costs 16+ million this year. 3. We still are weak at PF. 4. Need to move 14+ million for filler for this trade. Where will it come from?? By looking at our situation and salary comparison, I wouldn't trade Parsons for Gay! No way!
I would trade lin, harden, and asik for Rudy gay and Kevin love! Theres nothing better than watching some gay love action....
