they are saying the storm surge was equivalent to a category 3 hurricane - the immense size of the storm push a ton of water into the area. worst seems to be over with the storm surge as high tide has passed. But the damage is going to be immense. NYC isn't built for this.

The ground zero flooding is surreal. What's so freaking weird that the area wasn't even under a hurricane warning/watch.
The storm surge is really surprising folks in Lower manhattan...water coming down the east side and hudson river...and then being forced up from the bay...wall street i dont think will be open for the week...bad bad news for a dangerously fragile economy...
wasn't a hurricane. Technically a nor'easterner. There's no tropical core anymore. Storm went from minor hurricane to monster extratropical storm - that's why it is so bad. it whipped up the ocean and sent it driving into the coast. Tides have peak, looks like water withdrawing.
If i every looked out my door and saw this...... I WOULD NEVER LEAVE THE HOUSE AGAIN. Thanks J.R. for showing me this. I not only have a fear of drowning by a flood caused by hurricanes, I now have to have the irrational fear of being eaten by a shark while I'm drowning.
That shark pic by the front porch is nuts. It may look small, but who knows if it might be up to 5 feet long. Just when you thought it was safe to go to the mailbox. . .
teknicaly it wuz a huricane.......now its a ; "post-tropical cyclone......ur bs bout y its dis bad iz jus dumm......leern more
I've had a couple brownouts. But still, not that bad, and since the Metro's not in service tomorrow morning, I don't need to go to work for another day. Guess I'm pretty happy about it.
