Hell no to Gibson, he's not that much better than Patterson / Jones / D-Mo and if we are really going after a new starting PF, it will be Josh Smith / one of the Jazz forwards or an all-star.
Agree.....his upside is no better than T.Jones (they hate on you T.J...but i got love for ya man!) we dont need a PF....we need a PF/C...ex:Cousins/Aldridge If you pair one of those guys up with Jones or Asik...better both, you have a great Front Court for years to come.
i mean... if u can have someone as overrated as ibaka for 12.5mil, 10mil is really cheap for gibson. ibaka might give u average 3 blocks a game, but he absolutely cannot guard his own man in lowpost. fyi, most of his blocks are from blocking not from blocking his guy. taj gibson is a quality defender, unlike ibaka.
Ibaka got that extension mostly on his upside, it's a gamble, but it's a reasonable gamble. For a 23 year old, he's on his way both defensively and offensively. Gibson should be paid with more caution. i doubt he's going to improve. Is he a legit 10 mil a year guy? maybe... but that's really pushing it, imo.
I think Gibson will sign with the bulls on Wednesday for 8.5/year. That's kind of the vibe I get here in Chicago. I expect the the Bulls to amnesty Boozer and replace him with Gibson and Mirotic, who will be over eventually and looks terrific.
never understood the obsession with Josh Smith. Guy has been in the league for a while now yet still plays like a rookie a lot of times. As for Gibson, no as well.
We have expirings left on the squad though, if you're gonna match Boozer's contract you have to give up multiple young guys to do it. If Chicago is majorly sucking at the deadline, I don't really why they won't just tank and keep the pick. Their team doesn't really care about winning a ring, their owner just wants to make them competitive enough to rake in the dough from the rabid Chicago fanbase.
As predicted, 4 years, 32-38 million, depending on incentives. Seems just about right to me, as he probably would have seen a tad more on the open market. Asik situation avoided.
the needle very far. Now he's looking too expensive. Yawn, pass.[/QUOTE] Hahaha at all you haters. Observe the magnificence of the Taj Mahal when given minutes! Worth every penny and more. Morey needs to find a way to steal Taj.
The underlined bit is only partially true? Ibaka did lead the league in blocked shots, while also playing solid defence, providing decent rebounding in limited minutes (7.5 in 27 minutes) and providing solid finishing around the hoop (mid 50s FG% each year of his career). Taj Gibson looks more like Amir Johnson in comparison! An active big guy who provides decent hustle and rebounding. I'd agree with the Bulls on this one!
He's still a bad fit here except as a guy off the bench. Him and Asik together would be the greatest defensive interior and the worst offensive interior in the NBA.
