The same reason we just made the trade for Harden. We could of waited two years to see how good Lamb is. Why hope when you can get someone who is proven?
Are you really ignorant or just playing dumb and trying to be funny? If it's the latter, you failed... 1. Lin is US citizen. 2. Lin is from Taiwan, not mainland China
Aldridge would be very nice next to him. If the blazers suck like I expect them to this season, lma could be traded at the trade deadline for dmo or jones, Royce, our first available pick and salary fillers.
Ronny: You are not ignorant or dumb but dense! Lin is: 1. US citizen. 2. Played basketball in Palo Alto, CA 3. Played basketball for Harvard. 4. Graduated from Harvard. Now, you will need clean your reading glasses and turn up your hearing aid!
You know who'd be a great PG to pair Harden with? Kyle Lowry . Billups in his prime would have been awesome, too. Lin might be a little too ball-dominant, but I guess Lin and Harden could be a nice combo as well. We'll see. I think the most likely next "big name" that ends up here is Josh Smith. I think Morey will ask ATL for permission to negotiate an extension with Smith's agent and if the asking price isn't too steep from both Smith's agent and the Hawks, I could very well see Morey pull the trigger on an extend&trade deal. I think Smith via free agency is a very viable option as well. There have been reports in the past about Smith wanting to play for the Rockets and the Rockets will be up there with the teams with the most money to offer. An interesting nugget to think about, would you rather trade one or two of our young PFs, maybe Parsons and whatever else it would take for Smith at $12-13M a year, or would you rather max Smith out via FA without giving up any assets?
Judging by the preseason games, I think the coaching staff is assigning Lin a significantly less ball dominant role than he had with D'Antoni even before the Harden trade. They were running plays with Martin and Parsons on the ball a good deal of time. Probably a wise choice trying not to put too much pressure on Lin to repeat his NY performance and to prevent turn overs. McHale also told Lin to make the simple play-- you don't have to get yourself or teammate a dunk or wide open look every time, just draw attention and move the ball. One thing Lin needs to do, whether he plays with Harden or Martin, is to get his spot-up shooting up to an acceptable level (33-36% on 3s would be enough, you know, Rafer Alston numbers) so that he can help space the floor when the other guys have the ball.
Im all for LaMarcus Aldridge dude is a 20+ scorer and will make a reall good 1-2 punch with Harden...Is not just about getting two great players but if they games mesh well and I think Harden's and Aldridge's do... Then Jeremy Lin can be a real good 3rd option on a contending team like the Rockets and we have Delfino as our 6th man... To get LaMarcus Aldridge I would give the Blazers To Rockets: LaMarcus Aldridge To Blazers: 2015 first round pick(unprotected) Terrance Jones (Nice prospect) Donatas Montiejunas (Big pontential prospect) Shaun Livingston for money wise and last year on contract 2014 second round draft pick
Ick. I don't like Smith's game at all. But, I think Morey wants him and I agree that we can probably get him on the cheap. Of course, this assumes we don't simply wait for better options to come (something else I can see happening). We'd probably send Patterson to the Hawks, Jones or Motiejuanas to a third team, with the resulting compensation also going to Atlanta. The only trouble is that we can't send Atlanta our pick, because they already have it. So, we have to hope that teams like our PFs.
If they are attainable... 1a Kevin Love 1b Lamarcus Aldridge As for realistic guys... 1 Al Jefferson 2 Paul Millsap 3 Josh Smith Yeah, I don't like Josh Smith. If we got him for dirt cheap that would be one thing, but for ~$13 million? Fuhgitaboutit.
Trading a guy like jones for an older, less talented, more expensive, yet more proven PF is pretty short-sided in my opinion. We're not winning any championships this year. It'd be nice to find out if we have another young building block on our roster instead of blowing the rest of our cap room on a player who's not much of an upgrade at the same position. If we are going after a veteran big, at least get a guy who can play some center, like Al Jeff.
Kevin Love if he become's availble.. Parson, Montie, Patterson, 1st Rd draft pick for Love Lin Harden Delfino Love Asik
need a big man who can create for himself and others. a couple that come to mind are Cousins, Aldridge, Big Al. Don't know the feasibility of those dudes if at all. Too much talk about Josh Smith around here.
Why do people have such a problem with J. Smith? From what I've seen of him he's pretty great. Solid on defense and great offense minus the long 2s. Here's Hollinger on him: And we all know we need to keep adding leftys, right? Honestly, I think he'd be a great addition depending on what we gave up for him. Patterson + Jones or DMo and some other fodder? We're not going to get a LeBron/CP3/Howard. W/ Harden and Smith plus our other young dudes, we'd at least be a good bet for 3-5th seed in the league. Is that not good enough? One more push from that spot and we get championship contender status - in 2013-4 maybe we get a chance at another addition that takes us there. Obviously no rush on the trade but Smith is perfectly suitable for what this team needs and even if he doesn't get us to the ultimate level, keep in mind not hat many players will (or are not available at all).
So, even in the unlikely event that Minnesota, Philly or Sac decided "hey, let's trade our best player midseason and royally piss off our fan base," what makes you think that the Rockets have the most to offer? We just traded away our best assets. Now, the first 1st round pick we can trade is in 2015. Our young players are unproven (Jones, White, DMo) or low-upside (Parsons). Sometimes it does pay to think about things from the other side, and to realize that there is a big world of other teams out there. Patience is key - the next shoe isn't dropping this year and you cannot predict now who will be available next summer or during the 2014 season. The best hope is that a) one of the "unprovens" establishes himself (Jones is the best bet), b) a random star somewhere in the league gets dissatisfied and makes noise (completely unpredictable), and c) the timing works. Eventually this will come together, but just as 12 months ago few people were predicting Harden, right now all but a few random guesses are going to be wrong.
