DC's all dark and stuff, but it's just drizzling. Combined with the fact that I got the day off and still have power, and I'll admit I'm in a good mood now.
Yikes. I have two friends in Long Island. Gotta check on them. Troll? Lol! I was merely saying that people were b****ing that Ike was just a cat 1. Not me.
man...having the storm intensify...before land fall...is a bad sign...new reports have the storm with close to 90mph winds...AC is gonna get destroyed...the area is already flooding and the worst hasnt even come yet...plus high tide...tonight...praying for folks up there...
Ike was a much worse storm than this. The real thing that makes this bad is where it is making an impact which is the northeast and I guess the fact that it's merging with another system. Unprepared people, densely populated areas, and low-lying areas. Still, it's blown out of proportion calling it a "perfect storm" or "storm of the century". East coast media.
People need to remember that the Hurricane categorization primarily focuses on wind speed and doesn't take into account a lot of other factors.
This storm is insane. All our friends, our fellow members in the region, need to look after themselves and their loved ones. Be prepared for anything. While a storm frequently turns out to not be as bad as some expect, there are always exceptions, and this could very well be one of those. Katrina, of course, comes to mind as an example, but there are others. Don't be complacent. Be ready! Good luck. I hope you don't need it.
I don't see anything being blown out of proportion. It's not the hurricane category, air pressure or sustained wind speeds that determine how bad a storm is. It's the amount of damage it causes to human settlements that matters. While Ike may have been a bigger, badder storm, this one affects so many more people and and has such widespread effects that it looks like the damage (and economic collateral) will be much worse than Ike when all is said and done.
Possibly.. but I still don't think it's reasonable to call it the storm of the century. There have been worse storms.
What...this is very dangerous and possibly devastating storm to the region...Almost 50 million people in the area could be without power...and thats the least of their concerns...flooding has already started...and the storm's surge impact hasnt even become a real factor yet...oh and btw the storm has intensified...maybe the media might overhype things...but NYers are stubborn bunch of folks...and often ignore the media It is a perfect storm/ and a storm of the century for people in that area...they dont know what to do with all that water...for them to close the subways is a huge deal(only been done like 2-3 times ever)...This will go down as the costliest storm, but will it be the most deadliest...time will tell...prayers to the folks out there...
an 8.2 earthquake in the middle of the Nevada dessert is irrelevant. a 4.8 earthquake in the middle of Manhatten is tragic. those who say Sandy is being blown out of proportion seem to ignore where this is hitting.
