I've been a DirecTV customer for awhile, but I'm finally making the switch. There are just things I want to accomplish that they won't work with me on. I'm not mad at them nor do I think they suck (I'm actually really disappointed to be leaving DTV!) Anyway, I'm looking at the U300 and getting two rooms. My question: they are offering 26 dollars off for 6 months. Does anyone know whether or not they can extend that to to 12 months if I push them on the phone? Also, I haven't paid for HD in years thanks to deals I've had with DTV. If I call into ATT will they waive the hd charge? I'm basically just trying to see what potential "off the book" deals I can get. Anyone had any good experiences signing up with them and getting better deals than what they advertise on the web?
Just talk to the phone sales people and negotiate your demands. I had a few demands that I did not want to pay and eventually they caved in order to earn my business. I'm sure you can get your offers pushed out to 12 months if you just haggle with them.
I got a pretty good deal. I told them I wanted two receivers HD and nbaTV for 90 or less. They were able to do it. It's a one year deal and it's u200. I had u300 for 100/month, but most of the movie channels are the same old movies... Dunston Checks In, My cousin Vinnie, Mighty Ducks, Back to the Future pt.2 only, occasionally a new movie The Hangover. It's not worth getting u200, I promise.
I've been with U-Verse and have their wireless DVR, and it works great. I can't have DirectTV because I live in a condo and they can't run the needed cables. I've been happy with U-Verse for the most part... they worst thing they have going for them is the fact that they're AT&T.
Well like I said in my initial post, I love DirecTV. My reason for leaving them is that I'm on old DVR technology and they won't upgrade me for free. They are heavily discounting it, but the cost to upgrade plus the cost of an additional room PLUS my other deals expiring makes DTV about $650 more over the life of the 2 year deal I need to sign. I fully anticipate going back to DTV at some point. They tend to offer insane "come back!" deals after you leave. Buy you out of your current contract, give you all the latest technology, etc. If you need a referral I'll give you one to save you $10 a month! I have a room upstairs that I want television in. The tv would not be on a convenient wall to run new cabling. I also want to be able to move it from one room to the office. The living room would still be wired.
As I said, I live in a condo with shared walls. For me to get TV to several spots in my condo without ugly ass cables everywhere I must have wireless DVRs. My condo is pre-run with Comcast lines... but @#$% those guys.
Back in my day, we couldn't move the TV around all willy nilly. Kids these days have it so good. About how much more per month is one of those new-fangles wireless receivers, if you don't mind me asking?
As far as I know it is included with the service. I get just about every channel for $136 a month, and it doesn't have an equipment charge on my bill for u-verse TV. If they do charge for it now I'd imagine it was about $10 a month, just a buck or two more than normal HD DVRs.
So, it looks like I'm stay with DirecTV. I was disappointed to find out the UVerse DVR can only record 2 shows in HD at once. Called DTV back and got a different rep. Told him I had an offer on the table and was giving DTV last chance. He got me the new genie dvr with directv for free, and then gave me some more discounts and free premiums for a year. All in all, over a 2 year deal I would still save $125 with ATT, but now I keep DTV and get better technology. Winning. So... if anyone needs a DTV referral I need to get one out to someone!
I just switched from Uverse to DTV. Love the picture quality. The adjustment to new channels and that lag when switching channels kind of sucks, but I love it so far. On Demand is ok. The wireless box for Uverse was not so great for me. It would reset and go blank a lot, so I don't miss it. Sunday Ticket is freaking awesome...now I just need Rockets games darnit!
I was on the phone with at&t about my wireless service today and they were pushing hard for U-Verse (which actually ended up being more expensive than the fragmented contracts I have with Comcast and DirecTV). When I turned down the "deal" (which included a $400 Visa gift card) they offered to knock the service down $50 per month for the first two years. I...wasn't even interested in U-Verse. I just wanted to know the price. That was their "final offer", but I got the manager's number, so I suspect I could get an even better deal...if I indeed want to switch.
Weird. I've been with Uverse for a while and I could have sworn that I've recorded 3 HD shows at once before.
You can, but you have to be watching one while it's recording. If you try to watch another channel you have to watch in non HD mode to be able to view. Hate this.
I have uverse and we can record or watch 4 HD channels at once. Have not had a single issue with it and Sunday and Tuesday we are always recording 3-4 HD shows at once. I switched back in June, so maybe I have newer equipment or a better connection.
