Bad news for Chicago. Had a borderline contender and CBA'ed themselves out of it. That deal they gave Boozer was just absolutely terrible.
Lol Chicago will hate us! Stealing Gibson and Asik, two high quality players they would need to contend for a title. Why can't they just amnesty the Booz?
10 mil a year for Taj Gibson? yuck. if you are the Bulls, maybe you have to consider it, because you won't have cap space to replace him. But there must be better ways to spend 40 mil over 4 years.
We need a power forward who can score. Taj Gibson is not that player. Would prefer someone like Milsap or Aldridge.
Would you trade for Boozer for expirings and perhaps one youngster like Patterson if Chicago included their 2013 first rounder unprotected?? I think there is a chance Chicago misses the playoffs in the East with Rose not being with them until late in the season. We would essentially be buying a lottery shot by taking on the remainder of Boozer's deal. I wouldn't do it now. But if they are really majorly sucking at the trade deadline, it might be worth it to get our mits on a top 3 pick.
Well the only time Boozer played up to his contract was when he played against Houston... So perhaps he would play good in Houston? It would be tough to pay all that money for a pick. Boozer is making way too much money and is an ex j*zz player.
they won't majorly suck with Deng-Boozer-Noah/Gibson, though. If Booz is your 3rd best player, maybe even 4th, you aren't terrible. another side to this -- do you cut Boozer? If you don't, you will win quite a bit more games. It will lower your own pick, which has a far better chance to be good than Chicago's pick. If you do cut him, then you kill your flexibility and really reduce your chance to be good for the next 3 years.
I'm not big on Gibson. Good player but doesn't move the needle very far. Now he's looking too expensive. Yawn, pass.
Bulls are in a bad place. Last season they often closed games with Gibson and Asik on the floor while Boozer and Noah watched. Now Asik is gone and signing Gibson will probably be too expensive.
History repeating itself, with non-max guys expecting the max again. The only way for the NBA to fix this once and for all is to put in ironclad requisites to be eligible for the max. Or maybe max+ All-NBA 1st team: eligible for max +15% All-NBA 2nd team: eligible for max +10% All-NBA 3rd team: eligible for max +5% Toss in all the other awards, stuff like that. Lower the "base" max to keep things under control. Need to get away from a system where the best player of the game makes the same as the one season playing for a new contract fluke types. Re-establish a middle class and safeguard against unmovable contract mistakes.
That won't happen though, because the NBAPA is full of "middle class" players who benefit from the system as it is. Plus, you have stupid GMS and rich owners that are willing to pay these guys more than they're worth.
Again, a bunch of pee-pee games designed to prevent GM's from mismanaging their teams. It's absurd. Multi-million dollar organizations can't find competent enough GM's to simply run their teams without paying Stromile Swift an absurd amount of money? I guess Stern needs dunces out there to keep feeding talent to the Lakers. Less rules, less pee-pee games, no protection. Hard cap with no limits on any player. These GM's aren't babies, let them figure it out. If they dig their team into a hole that's on ownership.
They usually closed games with Boozer and Noah. Gibson did play a lot down the stretch of games as well. Asik did not.
i'd be fine with it, as long as contracts can be 2 years max. otherwise there's bound to be a Grant Hill-2 situation (a legit superstar has a horrible injury that completely derails his career), only this time he'd be paid 70% of cap.
Need a hard cap to really make it fair for small-market teams. Whatever, either way Morey will compete.
