After taking the time to fully digest the ramifications of the trade yesterday, I'm especially stoked about the synergistic effect of our brand new, dynamic, young gun tandem in the backcourt. It's quite interesting in that they have a very similar skill set, i.e., they both can create for themselves and others, through constant aggressive penetration. Both mirror and, in theory, compliment each other's play as they are excellent iso, p&r, unselfish players who are consistently getting in the paint and wreaking havoc on the opposing defenses. What sets will McHale run to fully take advantage of this dynamic, I don't know. I hope it's not just the same "let's run and make the simple play" mantra cuz although it is a good concept, it's woefully general and IMO needs to be tailored to the strengths of the individuals on the court. As an example, although I love the free-flowing offense we are trying to achieve, we should've put in more high pick & rolls for Lin, as that's what he made his name on. This year, we'll get to see if McHale can truly coach players and not just establish a cookie cutter run n gun offense.
Double penetration! Yes! Lin attacks from the right and Harden from the left. If Miami double teams them, the middle is wide open! Asik is waiting at the post!
Lin&Harden: "They are both slashers and ball handlers, the synergy is perfect!" Wade&Bron: "They are both slashers and ball handlers, this will never work!"
Interesting point. But Wade and Bron are 2/3 where Lin and Harden are 1/2. That's a very big distinction in terms of how the offense will flow.
Adding to this. Wade & Bron were both used to being THE man on there respective teams. Lin & harden were never really THE man. So ideally there should be less of a power struggle.
Lol talking about power struggles and positions.. Lebron plays all 5 spots. The reason this will work chemistry wise is simple. Harden can knock down the 3 ball and play off the ball when neccissary. Neither Lebron nor D-Wade can do this.
