I will be voting "against" for the METRO referendum which continues the general mobility program (a.k.a. raping METRO's funds for roads).

Isn't metro itself making ads saying support the GMP. It is the most ridiculous thing I have heard. Metro is POS organization.

I take the metro every weekday and love it. I have no idea how much they make/spend though.

Yes they are, it's a corrupt system.

It's ridiculous to think that we can run an effective transit system and give a quarter of METRO's funds to roads. Think about how silly that is. We are paying the METRO tax to have a transit system and take people off the roads, and we are giving a portion of that tax to more road building.. weird.

METRO, like most/all transportation organizations in the country, is subsidized by the cent on the dollar sales tax you pay. It is very convenient to take public transportation, but unfortunately METRO can only be effective for a small percentage of the population of Houston, because it is underfunded.

Yes I am aware. What I am not aware of is how much Metro is subsidized.

You present no facts to back up this case. What makes you think it is underfunded?

Definitely true. If you want to support the light rail which has beeb heavily used and is quite eocnomically efficient vote 'No.".

    Definitely.

I will also be voting against the billion dollar HISD bond. As a former employee of HISD who worked closely with HISD's accounting and finance departments, I refuse to vote for any HISD bond until the inept financial leadership of HISD is replaced. I refuse to vote yes because with the current financial leadership of HISD in place (the same financial leadership HISD has had for the last 15 years), I am 100% convinced that the bond money would be wasted, pilfered, and used for many unneccessary things other than the reconstruction of schools.

I voted for Metro, the taxes paid by the people in over 500 square miles should benefit their real transit issues not just support an anachronistic streetcar system that has no appreciable effect for them. I'd be all for a special taxing district for all acreage within 1500' of the streetcar to support the streetcar.(you add the tax value of the improvement to the property and collected it the next time the land is sold, like cities used to do for road improvements)

From what I am seeing on the West side, the school district is being very proactive in updating school facilities and that effects the values of the surrounding neighborhoods. It seems that the added real estate values make these bond projects self supporting.

I did that same on Friday. Also voted no to Metro. Not like it matters, they always seem to pass.
