Jonathan Feigen @Jonathan_Feigen Rockets expected to officially waive Gary Forbes, Jon Brockman and JaJuan Johnson on Monday, source said. Still must make 2 more cuts.
Sorry, with so many "pro-tankers" out there, it's hard to tell if comments like yours are sarcastic or not.
Tough luck for Forbes. Played well, and really deserves a role on an NBA team. Im going to guess that Douglas, and Hayward go next if the Rockets cannot move D. Cook in the next 48 hours.
So, once we cut JJJ, Forbes, and Brockman.... Who should we cut? Will Cook be staying on as our backup 2?
Then, this is what's possible: 5: Omer Asik/Aldrich/Greg Smith 4: Patrick Patterson/Terrence Jones/Donatas Motiejunas/Royce White 3: Chandler Parsons/Carlos Delfino/Macus Morris 2: James Harden/Toney Douglas/Daequan Cook 1: Jeremy Lin/Shaun Livingston Because James Harden can play some PG, there is no need to keep so many PGs.
Fyi, his name is Livingston. I'd rather keep & develop a nice prospect in Machado, than keep a known average commodity in Douglas. Livingston is a better defender and play-maker than Douglas, and we should have enough shooters in Cook and Delfino (assuming they keep Cook). There may be contractual reasons for keeping Douglas and cutting Machado, but from a pure talent perspective I'd keep Livingston and send Machado to DLeague.
From everything I have seen and heard, only one of Livingston/Douglas is expected to make the final cut, and Machado as of this last week was an apparent lock to make the final cut according the Jason Friedman/Ackerman. The last couple roster spots really dont matter to me. I personally just don't want to see a high upside talent waived to keep someone like Douglas(who I actually like). Even though the Rockets have something to build on now, they still aren't in a place to be filling up their roster with guys who are borderline rotation players on a good team.
I think the Rockets will get rid of either Toney Douglas or Daequan Cook because they both do the exact same thing and that's shoot while not being able to really handle the ball well. Machado will be kept and sent to the D-League along with Royce White and Donatas Motiejunas. Machado is too good of a point guard prospect to just cut. We would regret that move. P.G. - Jeremy Lin ________ / Shaun Livingston ___ / Scott Machado S.G. - James Harden _____ / Daequan Cook S.F. - Chandler Parsons __ / Carlos Delfino ______ / Marcus Morris P.F. - Patrick Patterson __ / Terrence Jones _____ / Donatas Motiejunas / Royce White ..C. - Omer Asik ________ / Cole Aldrich ________ / Greg Smith
Would really really like to keep forbes i think he would serve this team great now defensively and slashing for the second unit
Can someone explain the logic, financial or otherwise, of why we cut Forbes (and even Johnson)? I know we need to trim the roster but aren't they guaranteed deals? You think another trade is coming?

I could be wrong here, but I believe the Rockets would still have to pay them the portion of their salaries they have accrued this season so far. So not much in the grand scheme of things. Another trade coming??- I would sure think that SOMEONE would want a few of the players on Houston's roster, but most of the players a contending team would want could probably be worth waiting for a few weeks to see if they were waived first. The one person I wouldn't really be shocked to see traded for would actually be Aldrich if they felt the Rockets were going to keep him. Bigs are hard to come by, and a team like the Nets might be willing to cut Blatche, and give up a 2nd rounder to get him as their primary backup to Lopez. Who knows, but there must be teams out there willing to give up a 2nd rounder for him.
I'm expecting something along these lines to be our roster/rotation going forward: Lin/Livingston/Douglas Harden/Delfino/Douglas Parsons/Morris/Delfino Patterson/Jones/Smith Asik/Aldrich/Smith D-League: White Machado Motiejunas Possible variatons: -DMo and Smith might swap positions in terms of 3rd string vs. D-league. -Cook might make the team over Douglas (which forces the choice between Douglas and Machado for the final roster spot in the D-league). Would prefer to keep Douglas and Machado over Cook, but wouldn't be surprised by the move.
Douglas is making the team people! He's a gritty defender at the PG position, and can bomb the triple. I can't see why he wouldn't be first choice as our backup point this season? Haywood and ? still to be cut. I'd say surely it's a non-guaranteed deal, so either of Smith or Machado.
Cut Hayward and Cook. I'm not a big fan of Douglas, but I could see him playing well with a ball handling SG like Harden. If Douglas can find his old rookie form, which is possible because he has been injured the past couple of seasons, he can be a gritty defender who can shoot and score in bunches. In college Douglas was ACC defensive player of the year. I'd give him a shot to get his confidence back and think he has more upside than Cook.
I'm guessing they'll play the guarantee game now and release Machado and Smith, though Hayward and Livingston are other candidates. Don't see them releasing TD.
