Again, reading is an art! The love by national media for this trade because of Martin makes it seem like they valued him all along. Truth is, when he was with the Rockets, national media didn't think much of him because of his lack of defense. Especially since last year he wasn't really as effective any more because of the rule change.
Really? What are your standards then? Kobe, Lebron, DH etc...unfortunately all those guys are once a generation players, so unless we somehow tank next year and get SHabuzz or whoever we aren't getting players of that caliber. Personally, I think Asik/LMA/Parsons/Harden/Lin would be Pistons 2.0 and just tear the league apart.
Good trade. Martin is a misfit for this team anyway. Draft picks are always a gamble. Gonna miss lamb though. Would have offered D-mo but doubt okc would be interested. Was just beginning to feel attachment for the players in this team. Emotions aside, this trade has just brought us a few position up.
Yeah I had those numbers wrong. My bad. I'm still shaky on this deal though. The addition of Aldrich, Cook and Hayward make it a little easier.
Yes, Not, sort of... Basically, it works like this. Under the CBA (Gilbert Arenas rule), players can not earn more than the league average salary for their first 4 years. Players with more than 4 years can recieve the veteran's maximum (tiered by years played). Lin and Asik had just completed their sophomore year, so the most they could get paid this year or next year is league average, or approximately $5M. 2012/13 : $5M 2013/14 : $5M However, they CAN be offered contracts up to 4 years in length, which means that the last 2 years can be structured as follows... 2014/15 : $15M 2015/16 : $15M This is why Asik and Lin's contract look so strange. IF the FO thinks Asik is worth $7M per year let's say, then the only way to give them that much money is to backload the contract, or $5/5/11. Now, here is where it gets tricky... the new CBA is a bit quirky. The way it is written, the team that MATCHES a RFA offer calculates their salary cap implications AS IS, while the team that OFFERS calculates their salary cap implications as AVERAGED over the life of the contract. What that means is this.... when Morey bid $5/5/15 for Asik, this is what it REALLY meant for Houston and Chicago Chicago 2012/2013 $5M paid/$5M cap 2013/2014 $5M paid/$5M cap 2014/2015 $15M paid/$15M cap Houston 2012/2013 $5M paid/$8.3M cap 2013/2014 $5M paid/$8.3M cap 2014/2015 $15M paid/$8.3M cap This is why it was so good for Houston and poison to the Knicks and Chicago (who are over the salary cap and in danger of hitting the luxury tax threshold). Without Gilbert Arena's, or without the cap averaging for bidding teams, the opportunities would likely never have arisen. Even though Houston is paying Lin/Asik $5/$5/$15, they are not saying that Asik/Lin are $5M players that will be $15M players in 3 years. What they're really saying is, "We think you're worth $8.3M per year". Asik/Lin both get $5M paychecks this year, but it goes on the rockets cap as $8.3M. And in year 3, they both get $15M paychecks, but it Still goes on the Rockets' books as $8.3M for purposes of the cap. Another way to look at it is Asik/Lin are $8.3M/year players that are being forced to lend the Rockets' $3.3M interest free this year and next year, to be repaid over the following 2 years. SO, as it stands now for purposes of the Cap... Harden - $15M Asik - $8.3M Lin - $8.3M Total - $31.6M ... in other words, a LOT of room to fill out the rest of the team. Folks who talk about Asik and Lin being paid as Max contracts just show they don't really understand the CBA at all.
Definitely, and so was Marcus Morris, but I feel like Lamb was the guy that Morey would be most likely to send in a deal. Just didn't seem to be the cerebral player Morey usually covers.
He's signing the extension Jonathan Feigen @Jonathan_Feigen Yes. Slam dunk. RT @WildDeUcE15: @Jonathan_Feigen is @JHarden13 gonna sign the extension rockets plan to offer him before Wednesday?
The NBA CBA prohibited the Thunder from offering Harden a max deal similar to what Houston can offer. The current CBA allows teams to offer 4 year extensions to rookie scale players. Additionally, you are allowed to designate one player for a 5 year extension. The catch is that you are only allowed to have 1 of the 5 year extention guys on your roster at any time. The Thunder used their 5 year extension on Westbrook so they are not allowed to offer another player a 5 year extension on a rookie deal. In fact, they are not allowed to trade from a player that was designated for the 5 year extenstion under the current CBA. So, while there's been several reports that the Thunder offered Hardin $4.5M less than the max that is misleading. The most the Thunder could offer Hardin was a 4 year/$60M deal. Since the Rockets haven't designated any one for the rookie 5 year extension they can offer Hardin 5 years/$80M. OKC was at a huge disadvantage in their negotiations since they couldn't come within $$20M of what other teams could offer unless they first got rid of Westbrook. So, while the Thunder MAY have offered Hardin $4.5 less than the max that they could offer, that deal would be $24.5 million less than what Houston can pay him. This is another of new rules in the CBA that is being exploited for the first time (such as the Arenas rule changes that we used on Lin and Asik). The other thing that this deal demonstrates is how the new more punitive luxury tax rules are going to change the way the league does business.
I have to agree with you I was saying the same thing once I found out how much we gave up to get him and now hes going to get a max contract idk about this we couldve built something through the draft like okc did but morey is just not patient
so when did $8.3 million become the max? did i miss something here? I honestly feel like people are just trying to put this down as a bad trade for the sake of doing it
Right, which is why I was saying they reason why they didn't give him the max wasn't because they felt he didn't deserve it.
James Harden @JHarden13 I would love to Thank Oklahoma City for 3 amazing years! Teammates and Fans were thee best. The love will always be there. Thanks Again. James Harden @JHarden13 God has a plan for us! @DC4Three @colea45 & Lazar.
Playing with Durant was a huge reason Harden might seem overrated. Maybe Parsons is ready to prove he's on Durants level lol
Last night his "sources" had to confirm Woj's story on the trade. Broussard is a joke and his shtick is clearly over. Don't know why ESPN keeps trotting that fool out.
