In 25 minutes per game, Jones is averaging 10.5 points and 5 rebounds on .472% shooting with 1.17 turnovers.

In 18 minutes per game, Motiejunas is averaging 9.8 points and 4.3 rebounds on .511% shooting with 0.5 turnovers.

On a per-36-minute basis, this means Motiejunas is both out-rebounding and out-scoring Jones per each minute played, while turning the ball over less.

For my money, Motiejunas is clearly the more skilled offensive player and is at least Jones' equal, if not his better, in rebounding.

Jones is a better defensive player, and that's probably why McHale likes him so much.

But Motiejunas has all-star potential, while the best Jones will ever be is a roleplayer.

If Motiejunas does get buried on the bench, I will be pissed off.

It's actually not about the stats.

From the last few games it is quite evident that Jones has been playing meaningful preseason minutes against where they actually try to run something resembling offense.

By the time Dmo got on the last 2 games it was basically free for all.

Toney Douglas? I see a 4 guard rotation of Lin/Harden/Douglas/Livingston or Machado, with Delfino primarily backing up Parsons.

Hopefully Royce can improve enough to get into the rotation and run point forward with a scoring backcourt.

In addition, there's a little thing called defense. And Jones has shown himself to be much better at that purely because he possess the bulk that Motie doesn't have.

See this is what ticks me off, i mean, are you even watching the games. jones is the FIRST big of the bench, so he collects his stats against you know, NBA rotation players. Whereas Motie is playing GARBAGE TIME. Futhermore, i think it is quite ridicdulous that you have labeled Donatas the superior rebounder. Short arms and average athleticism, rebounding is most certainly not his forte.

    Harden's backup?

Think there could be a follow up trade balance the team now? How many 4's do we have now?

I agree Jones has played better than Dmo but I wouldn't count him out. Dmo wingspan isn't the greatest but his standing reach is higher than Jones from what I have read. I think when he gets comfortable he will have a good season.

Cook can't shoot the ball, he has only had one good season of shooting and it wasn't last year.

    D-Mo has looked like ****.
Send him to the D-League and tell him to bulk up and gain 80 pounds before he comes back to this team. Dude is frail and weak. I can't fathom another David Andersen 2.0.

I don't know about you but regardless of upside Terrence Jones's affinity for offensive rebounding and scrappy play should be what is measured to earn minutes and a rotation... not upside.

Our backup situation is pretty unclear at this point. Delfino and Jones should be solid, but we still need a guy that can initiate things for the bench players can play off of, like Dragic last season and Lowry before that.

Will Douglas or Livingston be able to take on that role in the beginning of the season?
