Quick and dirty salary calculation, assuming the Rockets waive all their non-guaranteed contracts, have the following roster. Lin, Asik, Harden, Parsons, White, DMo, Patterson(can be cut to save $3mil if necessary), Morris(can be cut to save $2mil if necessary), Jones,1st round pick And conservatively estimate of $15mil capspace, enough for a young max, or overpay someone. Who would you go after? Some names that comes to mind include maybe Millsap, Splitter, Iggy, Curry, and Josh Smith
Josh smith would be a great fit, but we won't be contenders. We'd be more like Indiana, a tough out for the powerhouses in the second round.
After just a cursory glance at next years FAs, there doesn't seem to be much. All of the big names are guaranteed to re-up with their current teams. Smith seems to be the best option, but considering our depth and young talent at PF, I don't think he's that much of an upgrade.
I hear Kevin Martin is expiring. He would be a great starter for us to let Harden come in and finish the game.
Do not forget that Bynum will be testing the Market. He was going to test it as a Laker I doubt that's going to change now that he's in Philly.
We need a low-post threat, love Millsap but he's not taking us over the hump. The Rockets have been holding a casting for disgruntled all-stars, who's next?
