They'll take care of you in the cancellation department...that's what they did with me. Boosted my internet speed, threw in 150 more channels and cut my bill by $40/month.

David, who do you use for internet? Comcast? I'm paying over $200 a month for 4 DVR's, Uverse 300 (no HBO, but have the sports package) and the highest speed internet which is only 18Mbps, and I don't even get that. That is too damn high for Uverse, and Direct TV seems to have much better HD quality too.

Nope, they guy was very rude and was ready to cancel me right then. I'll call back later, I was on the phone for 30 minutes and I can't do this at work. They used to be so friendly and easy to get through too. Now that so many people have it, just meh. Whatever.

wow...yeah, i'd say try again. vastly different experience than i had yesterday. I got on the phone with a guy who was based in St. Louis and we talked quite a bit about the Astros leaving the NL.

I love DirecTv. Never had any problems with them, and their customer service is top notch. I think they'll get the channel a game or two after the season starts. DirecTv usually doesn't have many disputes, and if they do, they never last very long.

I use AT&T for internet. They charge about $25 a month and it is fast. I have never had any problem with it.

That is quite expensive for 4 DVR's and not even having the movie channels. I pay about ~$130 a month for 3 HD DVR's, Slimline Dish (DirecTV HD) with HBO and Starz/Encore.

After I complained about the Rockets situation, they gave me Showtime for free for 6 months and the additional sports package that includes all of the sports channels throughout all of the major media markets (i.e. all of the Fox Sports channels, NBC sports channels, etc, etc)

I chose DirecTV because they offer a **** load of channels in their package and they also give you NBA/NFL/MLB as well as about 7 or 8 ESPN's in their Choice Xtra Classic package. It is about $70 for that and it has just about every channel I want and some.

I pray to god DIRECTV gets the channel! But even if they do, the guy on the phone told me I have to pay $11.99 extra to buy the sports package because the channel will be on the sports package idk if thats true for other DIRECTV members?

It definitely depends on what person you talk to. I had your experience.

I haven't heard anything about it, but I wouldn't doubt that at all. IIRC all of the other CSN sports channels they have are in the 600s which is the additional sports channels. If they try to pull that, just tell them you are very disappointed and you may want to switch to a provider that provides the channel for free. I would put money on it they give you the channel for free.

Got lucky with my rep at U-Verse when I tried to cancel, was able to over $50 bucks off my bill (still pay a ton) for next 12 months and upgraded my internet. Hopefully they reach a deal before the season starts.

Thanks, Max. I don't find anything in your post with which to disagree.

But this team has already become irrelevant to me. They fired their winningest coach in franchise history in favor of a puppet, they tried like heck to gut the team (and its vaunted "assets") for an over-the-hill Gasol, they tried the same thing in trade for a one-year rental of Howard, they opted for Lin over Dragic/Lowry choosing international money over basketball (in China they get to watch the games), and now they're asking me to push my provider so they can make even more money? And then they want me to pay extra for the channel?

    No.

This isn't even "my" team anymore. There are three players on it that I even know and only one -- Parsons -- do I care about. Dragic and Parsons should have been at the center of our rebuilding efforts. Either could turn out to be a star in the league. We've seen both players get better and better and we don't know the ceiling of either. Lin instead of Dragic? Come on. Les doesn't care about winning. And he doesn't care about the fans except for the money he gets from them.

I'm done with the Rockets. I'll still visit the board because I love the board. But my interest in the GARM will be nil because my interest in the Rockets will be nil.

I've been a fan way too long to repeatedly get screwed over so a mega-rich man can become double mega-rich.

I'm not leaving this team. The team has already left me.

More than 30 years of loyal fandom down the drain. Thanks, Dick. Wait, I mean Les. No wait, I mean Dick.

So, it was the poster that finally put you over the edge. It's always fascinating to see what it is that sends people over.

It wasn't the poster. If you were to search through my GARM posts you would see my growing frustration with Les going all the way back to his awful treatment toward Rudy T as he was showing him the door. I listed 12 months or so worth of complaints with Les. But my problems with him go back to the Rudy T firing -- not the fact of it but how disrespectfully Rudy was treated. And rarely has a full year gone by that Les has not royally pissed me off.

What pushed me over the edge was that this TV situation existed in the first place. Getting regular season games on TV is insufficient to me to regain interest in a team I've been sick of for years and years -- especially when it's not even the team I know but rather a tanking team. Even so, I have never missed a single game (regular or pre-season) in at least 15 straight years. Last year was the first year I think that I missed games. Maybe 10 over the course of preseason and regular season last year. Going forward, zero.

I've been on Clutch City and Clutchfans going back to 1997 at least and I've been a fan since the early 1970s. I don't think anyone can doubt my loyalty to my home team. But the poster was just insult to injury; it wasn't my tipping point. Dropping the young and extremely promising Dragic (and then even Lowry) for a clearly inferior player only to make international dollars was the second to last straw. And I was already only going to watch the games when there was nothing better on. That this TV stuff happened at ALL was the final straw.

I may or may not come back to the Rockets if Les sells the team.

Was everybody this hot and bothered back when they started airing games on HSE? In those days, people that had cable were few and far between, and then they did pretty much the same thing in forming a station with the Astros IIRC.

But back then, there wasn't such a forum, literally and figuratively, to voice opinions either.

I really think a couple of dozen fans protesting outside the Toyota Center for the first game with some media coverage would crack Les and the Rockets' Admin.

starting to wonder if it is even worth the effort.

    How about it, Batman?

I was only bluffing because I don't care about Rockets games anymore but I did want a discount.

With the promotions I already had I was paying about $160 incl. taxes. I have 450 and pretty high internet speed.

They offered me a sum total of $14 a month in adjustments. And they said they'd only knock off that $14 if I agreed to 12 month contract.

I'm canceling ATT out of spite. Also out of spite I'm not changing to Comcast. I guess I'll go to DirecTV.
