McGrady was great that year and Yao had a season-ending injury that killed our chances. We'd get to miss out on McGrady's career-ending injury the next season, but aside from that we'd be big losers on that trade. Ray Allen's nice and all, but not the player McGrady was.

Boston would have went down as the only team in the NBA to go 16-0 in the playoffs as Mcgrady finally got a supporting cast to play with.
Ray Allen was coming back from double ankle surgery, so that trade would never happen that year. Not even close in terms of level of play that year. "Do it Morey" just a year after
That was 2008-09 when McGrady was injured and the Rockets faced the Lakers. This was 2007-08, when the Rockets won 22 straight games, Yao got injured in the middle of the streak and the Rockets lost in the first round (again) to the Jazz. But T-Mac gave the Rockets basically nothing after that season and if you could have just added Ray Allen to the 2008-09 team, that sure would have helped. The 2008-09 trade deadline though is when the Rockets sought to deal McGrady (talked seriously about a Vince Carter deal) and T-Mac went public with his microfracture surgery plans.
Sorry, but Ray Allen wouldn't have done anything to help prevent Yao's foot from giving way. Still could have helped them get past the Lakers in the 2nd round of course. Not sure about where they would have went from there on.
Even if we got Ray Allen and the same events occurred, he would have more value for Morey to trade than a Tracy McGrady coming off surgery.
Exactly. This is the poster child of trades that are fun to think about, but only really make sense retroactively.
