These are negotiations between Comcast and the various providers. Your feedback to your provider is part of the story...and Comcast is hoping people put pressure on their providers in droves. But at the end of the deal this is a business deal and nothing more. Many times these sorts of negotiations go down to the very last minute. It would not surprise me to see them reach a deal at noon on the day of the Rockets first regular season game, for instance. Until regular season games are on the line, there's not going to be a great movement towards getting this resolved. So far this whole thing has gotten some media attention...but not a ton. If regular season games are missed, then it's a story on a slow news day.
Eh, quit whining. MadMax is right. You'll end up getting it the day of and then realize how awesome it is.
I was referring to their ridiculous new ad they put out. I "think" they will get a deal done as well but thinking they will vs knowing they will is the problem.
This happens everytime there is a negotiation between providers and networks. I hope some of you don't think that either side isn't looking to get the most money in their pockets as they can.
Exactly. Having said that...I do get the indignation from Batman. A pro sports franchise becomes a bit of a public trust when we're asked to fund massive amounts of money to build their stadiums and arenas so they can represent our city. I get the frustration and anger....but I'm just confident that the Rockets and Astros have zero interest in being any less relevant in this market than they are right now....and if only 30% of the TV's in town can check them out, they'll become damn near irrelevant. The Astros project they'll have $80 million more to spend next season because of the new network....no way that's a reality if only a fraction of the TV's in town can get the games. This thing will get resolved, and few of us will remember that we missed a handful of preseason games.
Weren't the stadiums financed by hotel and rent car tax dollars? I understand this line of thinking, but at the same time, they are also trying to give fans a Houston-centric sports station to give fans access and coverage of these teams we've never really seen. Especially when you see how awesome the station is.
Hour-long "sportscenter" type show that is very Houston-centric (and Texas college). From what I've watched, I really enjoy the channel more than I did FSH.
I'm on the phone with Uverse, and they say the only people affected ARE THE ONES IN Houston. Well, NO ****! I'm threatening to cancel if my bill doesn't get lowered, as they also show multiple calls from me for slow internet ( I pay for the highest speed) and some local HD channels just go black for hours, usually during a damn football game. I am NOT to be messed with. Just make me throw that ninja star!
they'll offer you something to stick around. my suggestion would be to take it...you'll end up with a lower bill and eventually they're going to have to offer the channel in Houston that shows all Rockets and Astros games.
This team, being as it is currently filled with players the City of Houston has yet to get to know, could VERY easily slide into the NBA version of the Astros - a team in a city which is utterly indifferent to it. I did not watch a single Astros game this season, and I did not miss it one bit. I tried to name a single Astros player, and I knew the name 'Altuve' for some reason, but that's it. Seriously. The absolute LAST thing the Rockets organization needs to be doing right now is alienating its most loyal fan base. If we had been able to watch every moment, every trial and tribulation, every competition between players during the pre-season, then anticipation for this season would be at a fever-pitch. As it is, even the die-hard Rockets fans are forced into frustration and apathy. They should have had all these details worked out MONTHS ago. Because if they go several games into the season without the majority of fans being able to watch, and they are also losing, then more and more, the response of the fans will be to turn away and invest their time and attention elsewhere.
1. Ummmm....I recognize that it's not widely recognized on Clutchfans...but I'd say Houston has pretty well near the same indifference for the Rockets and the Astros. 2. There's no reason to have all the details worked out MONTHS ago...and they can't. It's a negotiation. It's like saying you should settle a lawsuit...great, how does the other side feel about that? Takes two parties to come to an agreement. In this case it takes Comcast and then 3-4 other providers separately. 3. We've already seen that at Toyota Center. Good seats will be available on FlashSeats this season for very, very cheap...just as they were last season. I'm in complete agreement with you that it will be made worse if no one can watch their games on TV and can't build a bond with new players as fans. But there's too much money for the Astros and Rockets to put their hands in by a deal ultimately getting worked out...it's just not a major issue for most until regular season games are on the line.
Yeah, I'm never that lucky. They just tried to send me to the trouble shooting dept. and want $149 for a tech guy to "check" my modem for slow speeds. Tha ****? I've never been charged for that in the past! Now I'm trying to get transferred back to customer service, 15 minutes on hold. I'm about ready to jump to Direct TV. Uverse used to be the shiznit, now it's slowly turning into another Comcast. I was also offered nothing for my complaint, they immediately transferred me to their cancellation dept. lmao
DirecTV is this shiznit man! If you have problems they give you free stuff all the time  Edit: I actually have never had any problems but when calling about this Comcast SportsNet channel, they upgraded all of my receivers, gave me extra sports channels that do not come on the regular sports package that I already have. Of course I had to install the receivers and call them to get them turned on, etc but it only took 5 min. I am rarely put on hold for more than 5 min. I would recommend them to anyone.
