Maybe he IS setting an example for the rookies... IE, you're new, inexperienced, and mostly never played together. Put aside thoughts of a championship and running wild all over the best players in the league. Instead, put your nose to the grindstone, work hard and most importantly ... LEARN.

The young players who are cut out for it will get their time. However, it won't come overnight, and certainly won't be without some hard lessons on the hardwood.

Maybe he is trying to motivate the guys indirectly.

Nothing wrong with being confident. Something along the lines of "we can give those guys a good run for their money" would have been fine. No crap they're a better team but when you say stuff like that, sounds like you are giving up without even trying. Not a good look.

I guess people here don't have a problem with it because they share a loser mentality as well.

I understand his meaning of saying that he may feel over matched, but I sincerly hope he plans on competeing with all of his heart and talent. What's wrong with people these daysI don't remember players ever believing they were just not gonna win.. Ask Calvin Murphy if he felt he could never compete against any team in the league, no matter how over matched his team may have been?!?!?!

Grow a pair stop whining KM and do what you do best, ball...

It's better than Lin said he is 100% but in fact he is not.

I agree with you that you can compete with any team in NBA, although you may lose to them during playoffs. One game is winnable against any team in NBA, so Martin's comment is not entirely correct.

We are the worst team in the West. There is nothing wrong with what Kevin Martin said. We all know it, he knows it, Morey knows it. We are in it for the draft pick.

But thats exactly what martin is saying. they can compete in terms of winning a single game (by playing harder - which is what he said), but not in the long run in terms of being a championship contender.

Maybe that's a smart veteran's way of telling his team they have a LOT of hard work and major effort ahead of them if they want to compete.

If he told them that they could be just as good as the Heat, Thunder or Lakers, those rooks would have made a mental note: "This dude is wack." Better to give them a realistic appraisal and use it to set a goal. KM has set an example by showing up in shape, working hard on his defense and keeping a good attitude this year despite all the nonsense of the last year or so. That's the kind of thing that young players notice.

I'm more worried about competing within our division at this point.

Why would you be worried about it? Our goal isn't to compete, its to get a high draft pick. It amazes me that people here still act like the Rockets can make the playoffs, compete in their division, win 35 games, etc... I don't think that's the plan guys. We are one of the worst in the west and that's by design.

It's a good plan and while we are tanking, the organization will still make good money off their cash cow, Jeremy Lin.

Totally agree. A better response would be that while they're inexperienced, they'll try their hardest to compete.
