It's arguably worse in the NFL since there is no lottery. If you play bad enough you can guarantee the #1 pick (i.e. Indy and Andrew Luck).

I don't understand you guys' line of thinking.

On one hand, you want the team to tank to the worst record possible. On the other hand, you all want the rookies to play well and also whine and whine when someone like Lin is not looking good.

You do have to understand it's very impossible for everyone on the team not sucking while still losing, don't you?

If you are rooting for tanking, you are rooting for all the players on the team for sucking and failing as well. So either you choose your side. You can't have both ways.

I hope our rookies are busts!

I hope Asik and Lin have the worst contracts in NBA history!

You have to hope next year's rookie to be a bust as well and at least not become too good too fast like a Lebron or Melo, if you want to draft Wiggins in 2014.

Sure you can. The NBA has a system for building a champion and that system rewards tanking. If a NBA fan has a problem with tanking then they need to find another sport to watch, because the lottery is an integral part of the league. It seeps into every aspect of the game, and the Rockets place themselves at a huge disadvantage by trying to buck the system.

The NBA isn't like the NFL. The League doesn't want parity. They want juggernauts, and juggernauts need doormats, which is why the lottery system rewards a team for being a doormat.

You're flat out wrong. It's very possible for Parsons, Lamb, and D-Mo to have solid seasons and the Rockets still lose. Young teams can't seal the deal. They have talent, they play well, but veteran teams beat them anyway. It happens every year.

So you're not a Rockets' fan? If your favorite player is traded, you won't stick around?

Ha, the players play this game to win, not to pad their individual stats. If you have multiple players to have solid seasons, it's very likely you win more than lose. Not every team in the league is experienced like the Spurs, you know. There are enough other young teams for us to beat, if our players happen to be good.

    Ha ha ha ha ha.

The Rockets will lose to veteran teams both at home and on the road, and they will lose to young teams on the road. That only leaves them beating young teams at home, which is why the pros are pegging them at 25-30 victories. Still too many, though. If the Rockets want Zeller or Shabazz or Noels, they will need to lose around 55 games. The difference between 27 victories and 30 victories could be huge.

That is not what I was saying. I was saying that tanking will result in the rookies not turning out as good as they could be and could possibly ruin them.

And from what I've seen so far, D-Mo picked #20 in the 2011 draft looks a lot better than Jonas Valuciunas picked #5 the same year.

It seems like only terrible threads get any traction nowadays. Here's some more terrible thread topics that might become multiple-pagers like this one:

Kevin McHale is the best coach the Rockets have ever had
"No Rockets coach has ever had to deal with such drastic roster changes in such a short period of time and McHale has kept the team competitive and exciting...."

Jeremy Lamb on pace to be better than Reggie Miller
"They both have sweet strokes and are clutch, but Lamb comes into the league when it's very perimeter oriented and defenders aren't allowed to hand-check...."

Greg Smith is about to show the world he's on Ben Wallace's level
"2004 Ben Wallace, that is. Both about the same size, both very active and athletic. I think this is the year Greg Smith really makes a name for himself...."

Marcus Morris is becoming "Melo with defense"
"Yes, he got off to a bad start his rookie year, but the last few games he's shown a great mid-range game and has really made his match-up work hard to score...."

I'll bet you privately that our record will be better than 27 wins.

The nonexistent T-Center homecourt adavantage I don't think will make a difference.

You want our team to lose on purpose and would be happy at the thought of a demoralized team?

If the team plays hard and plays to win - and have a 25-30 win record - then I am OK with tanking. Otherwise, tanking IMHO is not an option. Really just want a team I can root for and I would find it hard to root for a team that loses on purpose for future considerations. Tanking is just marketing speak for a bad product.
