based on preseason basketball people are claiming terrence jones is better than anthony davis. I got a bridge to sell you.
Has "TANKING" worked for Bobcats, Bucks, Raptors, Kings, Pistons, Wizards, Warriors??? NO NO NO NO NO NO & NOOOO ONLY THE WEAK TANK
Anthony Davis didn't look special? Looked at all the blocks he had on the Rockets. He is a defensive player right now and his offense will come over time. He is still very young so you can't just write off that he's just average. Usually rookies come into the NBA and often play at the same level of their peers, but guys like Davis will continue to get better and better over time. Im not saying the Rockets should tank but I believe that a top 5 pick is better than a 12-17 pick. Yea between the 12-17 pick, you can grab some good players but a top 5 pick, you have a higher chance of drafting a game changer. Having a top 5 pick gives the Rockets a much higher chance of drafting a guy that can change the face of the Rockets rather than drafting a player between 12-17 who can be good but won't impact the team as much. All the great players were drafted high except Kobe, and most of their teams are playoff contenders. I just rather the team compete in the playoffs rather than just trying their butts of to slip into the 8th spot and then get knocked out of the playoffs. The Rockets got rid of all their best players last year because they were tired to being in that mediocre cycle. Now if you rather the Rockets to make the playoffs, the last year's team had a much better chance if they add another solid piece. This team isn't as good as the last year's team. They are playing well right now in the preseason but look how terrible they looked against the Spurs.
Its not about tanking, because tanking is losing purposely even though you're good enough to win. Trust me, the Bobcats, Bucks, Raptors, Kings etc would love to win and make the playoffs. Do you think they really just want to continuously lose constantly over and over again? They want to win but they just suck. Their front office sucks. They can't get the right pieces or draft the right players. That's why they lose. The Rockets were a above .500 team over the past 3 years. But they were just stuck in neutral. So they broke up the team and started over. Its more about rebuilding this team from ground up rather than tanking. If the Rockets wanted to tank, they would of years ago. But rather than tanking (losing on purpose) they are just rebuilding this team from the ground up with young promising players. Its not the weak that tank. Those team just aren't good enough to win. No matter what, there will always be bad teams because not all 30 teams can be above .500 and make the playoffs. Those teams you listed are just bad teams. No one tanks constantly for years and years and years just for the hell of it. They just can't get their team together and the players doesn't have that winning mentality anymore because they lost confidence in themselves.
Optimism is like opium for sports fans. I do not see the Rockets competing for a playoff spot as they are currently constructed. I wish I could say different.
Those guys were good, but they were not superstars (e.g. Shaq, Kobe, Lebron). Parsons is a top 10/11 talent from the 2011 draft. Lin might be the same for 2010. Omer and Kevin may have allstar level seasons this year, and our rookies were undervalued. People keep mentioning the Pistons (very good, but not great players) because it's logical and it's a legitimate route to a championship. It's been done before, why not again? The Rockets aren't tanking. We might make the playoffs with this defense. Our offense isn't terrible either. You pro-tankers don't make any sense to me. There needs to be an epic rap battle between anti-tankers/pro-tankers.
There's a difference between our front office, and theirs. Morey has shown he knows how to find talent in the draft, and those teams remain at the bottom of the league for a reason. I can't stress this enough; Top 5 picks carry great value in a trade for a star player. Having a top 5 pick gives you great options, whether you want to draft a player, or trade for a player. The 14th pick year after year is keeping us mediocre. Swallow your pride and face it... In sports, you have to be bad to get good. If the Rockets would have tanked when Yao broke his foot, imagine where we would be right now talent wise. We could have been on the rise by now. But no, people can't put up with a few bad seasons in order to have numerous great seasons. People love to bring up our glory days, but you gotta remember who brought us our championships, and then remember how we got him.
I'll go ahead and post this again to prove that you need top draft picks to build a championship team. Notice how many were top 10 picks. We need top tier talent to win. You're either competing for a title, or you're not. The Rockets aren't close to being contenders, so why not try to rebuild?
Tanking is only half the story, the other half is making the right pick. Below are the top-10 picks of the teams you mentioned from 2000-2011. As you can see they had plenty of chances, but very few good picks. Bobcats 2004 Emeka Okafor 2 2005 Ray Felton 5 2006 Adam Morrison 3 2007 Bradan Wright 8 2008 DJ Augustin 9 2011 Kemba Walker 9 Bucks 2003 TJ Ford 8 2007 Yi Jianlian 6 2008 Joe Alexander 8 2009 Brandon Jennings 10 2011 Jimmer Fredette 10 <-- traded Pistons 2001 Rodney White 9 2003 Darko Milicic 2 2010 Greg Monroe 7 2011 Brandon Knight 8 *Darko was bad, but they also gave Ben Gordon and Charlie Villaneuva huge contracts. Raptors 2003 Chris Bosh 4 2004 Rafael Araujo 8 2005 Charlie Villaneuva 7 2006 Andrew Bargnani 1 2009 DeMar DeRozan 9 2011 Jonas Valanciunas 5 Sac Kings 2007 Spencer Hawes 10 2009 Tyreke Evans 4 2010 Demarcus Cousins 5 2011 Dismack Biyombo 7 Warriors 2001 Jason Richardson 5 2002 Mike Dunleavy 3 2005 Ike Diogu 9 2006 Pat O'Bryant 9 2009 Steph Curry 7 2010 Ekpe Udoh 6 Wizards 2001 Kwame Brown 1 2003 Jarvis Hayes 10 2004 Devin Harris 5 2010 John Wall 1 2011 Jan Vesely 6 Rockets 2000 Joel Pryzbilla 9 <-- traded 2002 Yao Ming 1 2006 Rudy Gay 8 <-- traded Just for fun, here are the San Antonio Spurs top-10 draft picks from 1987 to present day. San Antonio Spurs 1987 David Robinson 1 1988 Willie Anderson 10 1989 Sean Elliot 3 1997 Tim Duncan 1
So let's trade Omer (36), Kmart (26) and TJ (18) for Derrick Williams (2), Wesley Johnson (4), and Tristan Thompson (4) and then we'll be good to go right? We'll just build around these three players and we're bound to strike championship gold?
Thunder 2007 Kevin Durant 2 2007 Carl Landry 31 <- Traded 2007 Glen Davis 35 <- Traded 2008 Russell Westbrook 4 2008 Serge Ibaka 24 2009 James Harden 3 2010 Eric Bledsoe 18 <- Traded
Worst case scenario would be close to the 8th seed and trade young guy for veterans to help us squeeze into the playoffs. Th e only reason I want Martin playing well is to increase his trade value! I want the young guys playing and developing!
why tank? rockets will waste their lottery pick, like always, on busts. just trade em for 2 picks, the last pick will be good player
good job totally ignoring my post right before that one. What separates us from them is our front office. You picked out 3 random players that were selected with top 5 picks. 2 were picked by Kahn (LMAO, Kahn!) and the other by a team that failed to build around Lebron, picked an undersized PF over Valanciunas, and an undersized SG who never started a game in college over multiple other high ceiling players. Yeah, I'm sure Morey would have done the exact same thing as them with those picks .
Lin troll. Lottery picks under Morey: Patterson, Morris, and Lamb. Which one is a bust? Anti-Tankers only look at things short term. Pro-Tankers/Rebuilders look at the long term.
Parsons was ready to play as a rookie. Morris was not ready. Terrence Jones is the most ready of the rookies to play this year.
Tanking is about the worst thing you can do in sports. It's against the very spirit of sports and fails logically. Were we to have a team bad enough to be in the lottery, one 20 year old rookie ain't gonna do much. Tankers are just jerks who want their team to lose and fail miserably while selling out their integrity for their pleasure.
