with all the talk about how hard he's training in off-season, how his knee is 100 percent healthy. “My biggest fear is coming back to whatever team I play for next season and being as good. That’s my biggest fear. I need to be a lot better, a lot healthier. That’s my focus for the off-season and once training camp starts, wherever I’m at, I’m all about making that team better.” So far, I am quite disappointed with Jeremy Lin's performance. But still, it's just preseason, and I wise him success. Maybe he should not travel to china like a rock star next off-season and actually work harder on his training.
@ torocan Thanks for the excellent, detailed posts about meniscus surgery, and the time table of events. I've read pieces of those aspects in various places, but never so nicely organized and succinctly described as you did. It's actually a bit scary to read that "Lin worked out three hours before tipoff" -- as it does indeed sound like a lot of exertion, perhaps dangerously so, soon after surgery, especially since he was still experiencing pain. I guess there's no point to worrying about the possibility of some permanent damage since what's done is done.
This I agree, being with the Rockets for Lin to loose. He has the trust of the coach, the command of the team. A much forgiving fanbase o). If he plays the same as he does with the last game, well.... Linsanity as we hoped, stayed in NY and we are back to the GSW Lin, the Lin that was cut by the Rockets. Such a sad ending to a wonderful story
So wait, you have no patience for Lin but you do for Parsons???? Jeremy Lin Born 1988, 64 games played, 25 starts Chandler Parsons Born 1988, 63 games played, 57 starts Hmmm, sure any COMPETENT basketball watcher can sure see that his ceiling is fast approaching allright....
I don't get that either and people saying Lin is not in Rockets future. How do they know this? Can they see into the future or something?
Yeah parsons future is bright for the position he plays. Lin should be coming off the bench that gets 20 min a game hes not starter material in the NBA.
let's see.......he is coming off a knee operation. HMMMM....wonder if it might take some time to come back and play basketball after an injury? Anybody else not playing right now from a knee/leg injury? Hey yo Dallas and Chicago, how ya doin' ?
seriously, who here really thinks Lin is going to suck after watching a few preseason games? smart players don't play preseason games to pad their stat's, rookies do that. Lin was using these games to try things out, going to his left, penetrating and finding holes in the defense, getting a feel of how opponents trap him, and getting a better understanding of where his teammates like the ball. this Rockets team is going to rely heavily on Lin to make everyone around him better because there's just not enough talent here. Lin knows that and he's working on it. he already knows how to get his own shot. ref's don't make a lot of calls during preseason so a lot of those non-calls will only make Lin better when he attacks the paint during the regular season. the biggest plus i got from the preseason games is his defense, and he's ability to penetrate at will. once he gets a few calls going his way, a few and1's, a little slack, and his jumpers will fall.
How about we be patient in general with this team. Aside from Martin and Delfino, every single rotation guy is going to have minimal experience. This means we are going to have tremendous ups and downs. Even Asik, who has looked like a legitimate top-10 center is going to have his troubles. This season is going to be long and (probably) painful so it would be best to just be patient and take solace in the fact that at least we aren't the Kings or Wizards. In fact, after every loss this year all Rockets fans should just repeat those words "at least we aren't the Kings or Wizards."
In the last 5 mins of the previous game, he attacked the paint knowing that the chance of turnover would be very high as the paint was already crowded with 2 to 3 big guys. He ain't blind. He was just experimenting and trying to get the feel of what he hadn't done for a long time, which is attacking the paint. It is good that he does not care about stats (especially during preseason) or how fans would judge him. He is thinking long term.
So he is experimenting on how to run into the paint with 3 guys? I would prefer him not doing that in the regular season. Usually if they pack the paint you should have an easy midrange J.
Yeah I saw none of that last game. He did shoot a midrange J against memphis I believe. In addition to a midrange J he also has a floater saw that a lot last year haven't seen that at all this pre-season. It is basically what McHale said he is overcomplicating things. Just make the simple play, take the simple shot, make the simple pass.
Yeah, I also noticed that we haven't seen the floater at all in preseason. Its absence is particularly striking bc I was expecting to see a lot more of it this year. As for the midrange J, he took several (don't remember how many exactly) in the Spurs game but didn't hit them. It's preseason and he's still not where he wants to be so I don't take his shot selection as indicative of anything.
Who cares about Lin scoring this season. Last I checked, we have a bunch of scorers on this team. Martin can shoot. So can Parsons, and he's also a slasher. Jones looks to have good power down low and can develop his post moves. Asik can score when he's several inches from the rim. Everyone here acts like everyone on the team should be able to score. All I care about is Lin getting the ball to the scorers and we're winning games. So far, he has done that very well. To win games, you do need specialists.
