Kevin Walter is the WR version of the "blocking tight end". Thats fine when the system can utilize that ability. I think a difference this year is insted of just making a possession catch, Walter is making plays in the key moments. And he shoulda had another bomb TD grab last game if Schaub didnt overthrow him. He's just a dependable guy, that counts for a lot. Really there's not much "wrong" in expecting that, either. Why not have have a James Jones or Randall Cobb in Green Bay stepping in making plays when Greg Jennings is out? Why not have a Victor Cruz step up behind Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham in NY? You don't have to take out a steady guy for a dynamic project. You're not gonna have another Calvin Johnson on the bench, but doesnt hurt to have some weapons in the stable.
That isn't a fact. It is actually false. He has fewer catches and the same number of TDs. And yes, that is why it is easier to not have homer glasses on.
If being 66th in receiving yards, tied for 84th in receptions, and being tied for 43rd in receiving TDs is more than mediocre, then sure, he isn't mediocre. Walter is a fine blocker, but he wouldn't be a #2 receiver for most teams. Maybe you'd fell better if I called him mediocre for an NFL receiver?
This is the best titan fans can do this season? "Your #3 receiver is mediocre!" (Daniels is really our #2 receiver)
He's serviceable in the sense that he can make catches, but he really is not productive at a typical #2 level. I just ran through the list of NFL reception leaders and here is what I found: AFC: New England has 2WR + a TE with more receptions CIN has 2 WR + 1 TE with more receptions MIA has 2 WR + 1 TE with more receptions PIT has 2 WR + 1 TE with more receptions DEN has 2 WR + 1 TE with more receptions and then a 3rd WR with equal receptions BAL has 2 WR + 1 TE + 1 RB with more receptions TEN has 2 WR + 1 TE with more receptions KC has 2 WR with more receptions BUF has 2 WR with more receptions NFC: Giants have 3 WR + 1 TE with more receptions DET has 2 WR + 1 TE with more receptions MIN has 3 WR + 1 TE + 1 RB with more receptions ATL has 2 WR + 1 TE with more receptions GB has 3 WR + 1 TE with more receptions DAL has 3 WR + a TE with more receptions NO has 2 WR + 1 TE + 1 RB with more receptions SF has 2 WR + 1 TE with more receptions PHI has 3 WR + 1 RB + 1 TE with more receptions WASH has 2 WR + 1 TE with more receptions ARI has 2 WR with more receptions STL Has 2 WR with more receptions So in the entire NFL, Walter would be the second leading receiver (or tied for it) for 11 teams, the 3rd receiver for 4 teams and the 4th receiver or worse for 17 teams. That's not mediocre for a #2 and it isn't serviceable for a #2. He works as a 4th option.
A. We are a running team B. The majority of our games are over by the 4th quarter C. The word is "feel" not "fell"
Ok, so he had 4 more receptions last season, and 2 more targets. I'll give you that. I was going by the eyeball test, and I shouldn't have done that. However, if you've watched the games, you can see that he's a much bigger down field threat than he was last year. He has demonstrated the ability to get open beyond 20 yards much more consistently than last year, which has been shown in a 52 yard reception, and a 34 yard reception, plus he had another opportunity in the Baltimore game that Schaub simply overthrew. I'm not going to argue whether he's mediocre or not, but I will say that he does exactly what he is asked to in this offense. Much like New England, our true #2 in this offense comes from our tight end position.
We all hoped you would have stopped attempting to talk football after this gem.... For the love of God....please stop!
Texans are better than the Titans this season. I have nothing bad to say about the Texans. I like them fine. I've never lived in Houston. I've lived in GA most of my life. Bud Adams only moved the team closer to me.
He laid a vicious block on the nose tackle (who he gives up about 120 pounds to) during a stretch play early on Sunday. He's probably been "over-training".
A. Yes they are, and I think it is why Walter has remained. B. Not sure what it has to do with Walter being better than mediocre. C. Sorry I don't always take time to proof-read my posts.
Last year was a bad year for Walter (No AJ and no Schaub for large portions of the season). Yes, he does what it is asked of him. I don't know why people are acting like I'm insulting Kevin Walter.
Dude is perfect for the system. A hardworker WR who isn't focused on his personal numbers. This offensive system asks it's 2nd WR, 2nd TE, and 2nd RB to do things that won't show up on the stat sheet. Kevin Walter seems to fit that mold.
Kevin Walters is developing a better chemistry with Patt Schwab. Having a running back like Adrian Foster opens up the passing game for Walters and Andre Jackson. Jerry Kubiak has always defended Walters for being a good blocker and a team player. Patrick Smith did a great job in not cutting him.
