Just cant see Machado in the league. Sure he can pass and conduct an offense, but he cant shoot nor can he defend.

Seems like the irrational Machado hatred stems from the fact he challenged the "chosen one"...the same one who isn't worth half of his ridiculous contract (on the court anyways)

    Cut Morris

What's with everyone wanting to cut Morris? He's shown promise in his first game before he got injured.

Brockman, JJJ and Forbes. Yes Forbes has played well, but would you want him playing in front of Morris or White?

Agree I think it is odd that people want Morris gone. Same with Smith i would keep him also. I agree with your three guys.

If Jonny Flynn didn't get cut last year, Toney Douglas will not be cut for the same reason, and more. Besides, he's played quite solid.

Brockman and JJJ are gone. I think Livingston has a great chance of staying. So it's between Forbes, Smith, and Machado. I am guessing Forbes.

I really didn't understand why McHale went with the rotation that he did last night so it all depends on who he goes with friday. If he goes with Forbes, Douglas, Machado & JJ friday he could compare and based on the performance in practice and the game they will make the cuts. Imo Smith did well, he's shooting a high percentage, though defensively he's getting beat every time and not boxing out. Livingston is very valuable, as a veteran to Lin & Lamb, more so than Douglas or Machado. Cutting Forbes / Machado + JJ & Brockman for me.

Brockman, Forbes and Livingston. Non-valuable assets, we need to keep potential assets for our biggest asset.

Well cut down day is actually on this Saturday

    Starting 5:

    Linsanity
    Kevin Cold Blooded Martin
    Chandler Boy Wonder Parsons
    Patrick 2Pat Patterson
    Omer The Truth Asik

    Rotation

Douglas - Perfect backup (i.e. Brooks to Lowry)
Delfino - Can't deny him but he shoots too many threes to me
Jones - all out hustle guy (Carl Landry type player when he came in for Scola)
Lamb - should get playing time as Martin backup needs to drive more IMO
Motiejunas - will make team but prolly make a couple stints in D-League

    D-League / Cuts

Machado - (D-League) will be his best situation
Smith - (D-League) will be his best situation
White - Hurt himself for not showing up at camp on time (D-League)
    Johnson - Cut
Brockman -Cut (eye injury) but we didnt need another Chuck Hayes type
Morris - (D-League) injury set him back
Livingston - cut or possibly see him traded for a backup center
Forbes - thought he was playing real good in the preseason but its a numbers game (same boat as Livingston)

Some of us love Morey and some us hate him but I would not want to be him on Saturday

Excellent point on Forbes. Still, he's come in and been a true professional. I'd really like to hold onto him if at all possible.

Agreed, although I will point out the major difference, cap-wise, between the Flynn and Douglas situations.

Last year, the Rockets were preparing to completely "cap themselves out" by signing Dalembert. That meant that salary-matching via trade was going to be the only legitimate way to improve the roster over the coming months. Since Flynn had a $3M+ salary, he (along with Thabeet) represented the requisite salary filler needed to accomplish such a trade. Alas, Flynn and Thabeet WERE used to acquire Marcus Camby at the trade deadline, a move that SHOULD have propelled last year's team into the playoffs (if not for their horrendous choke job down the stretch).

Now, the Rockets actually have a little bit of cap room heading into the season, meaning that they will not be as desperate to have mere salary filler taking up a roster spot over someone with more upside. (FYI, had the Rockets' cap situation been like this last year, there is at least a chance that the Rockets would have kept Lin over Flynn, although Flynn was supposedly having a decent enough camp to keep it close.)

Still, I think Douglas's ability to DEFEND (something that Machado simply cannot do at this level yet) will keep him on the final 15-man roster.

Well, TECHNICALLY, the cuts that would save the most money (and create the most additional cap space, assuming there are no buyouts negotiated) would be Livingston, Smith and Machado.

Cutting Livingston would create $2.5 million in additional cap space (but read my last cap update for the cap reasons why they might still want to keep him around).

Cutting Smith would only create an additional $381k or so in cap room; and cutting Machado would only create an additional $237k or so. I think those players' potential will have more say in whether they are kept then their partially-guaranteed contracts will.

yeah, but then you'd have to spend another minimum on a point guard, so you actually end up losing $ wise as opposed to keeping Machado

    Just don't cut Greg Smith.

I still think there's some talent there. Give him the proper time to develop. He was very raw when he came into the league last year. Summerleague aside, any time I've watched him play he's looked like a player to me.

I like Livingston and I think Forbes isn't terrible either, so I'd probably keep them over Machado (granted, I've only seen him play in summerleague), but really I'd be fine with cutting any one of those three guys. Backup guards/wings are easy to find.

Hopefully it's Machado. I like TD as our 3rd pg and Livingston as 2nd. I actually hope we keep Forbes. He played decent last year with Toronto and could be a serviceable player for us.
