this is a thread about wishing we had the few women we have on board to come in to the d&d and give a different dimension to the tired old bull**** in here. most of you morons are unable to read between the lines or take a nuanced position on anything. despite whatever drunken rampage of a thread i made some days ago (and something like that had been building steam for some time), i have a healthy respect for women and especially my wife. i am so happy you guys all have perfect marriages and awesome sex just like when you first met. that is fantastic.
He mentioned people who don't know what life/death mean. According to you, that's your son. So he did mention your son.
you either can't read, can't comprehend language not drilled into you by wingers, or you just are ingenuous and immoral as hell.
My wife & I are swingers. Why wouldn't our sex life be awesome? You know this is an abortion thread. Nothing else.
okay sweetheart, i's an abortion thread. so GTFO, since it's the last thing we need. why are you in here?
You've now had two come-ons thrown at finalsbound.... and you think we don't read!! We need a drunken emoticon but who would have the sense to put it up?
i wholeheartedly believe that women are equal to men and should have total control over their bodies. you also have the right to control the threads you read. as to rapists, they are only surpassed by child molesters as the scum of the earth. if it's upsetting, better to stay out, but i wish more female posters would come into the d&d and crush some nuts. bigtex responds: do you believe that babies should have a choice in whether they live or die? It's more complicated than just being in favor of a woman having control of her body, because that gives no choice to the baby. A simpleton's view. me: if you think i am a simpleton then you are an idiot. a fetus doesn't know what life or death mean. i don't like abortions, i don't think anyone does. then watch the wingers start spinning and misunderstanding and flat out lying.
My guess is that the issue isn't that it is upsetting. Rather, I think there is evidence that women much more intuitively grasp the futility and general pointlessness of trying to browbeat people on an internet message board into changing their minds about deeply heald beliefs; you can't do it, and even if you did, the people's minds you are changing are loosers with enough time on their hands to argue on an internet message board. The D&D is a very male-centric form of mental illness.
so, just to weigh in on one issue, i'm not sure how whether a person is cognizant of, or understands, his or her death is relevant to the morality of killing them. /thatisall
I will admit that I don't know the meaning of life and death. I believe we each must make that meaning for ourselves. That means that the only person whose life I can really speak to is my own ... I can't tell you the meaning of your life. Unfortunately, I don't believe that you know the meaning of life and death either, so I'm unwilling to live in a world shaped by your ideals, and I shouldn't have to. What if life or death have no meaning except for what we make them mean? Yeah, I know ... this is pointless.
I've had to euthanize four cats over the past two years. I can't speak for you obviously, but I can say that that particular issue was at the core of my thoughts in all four instances when chosing to procede in treating these cats that I care very deeply about. I get that some people's views on eternal souls and God make it irrelevant, but for me it was at the core of things.
so, not to minimize your pain, or thought process, but in this particular discussion, it's probably not reasonable to equate human fetuses w/ cats.
I understand that your opinion on the issue is different than mine, and yours is the 'conventional wisdom' But like I said, this is something that I've devoted quite a bit of time thinking about. From my perspective, an actualized grown human mind has language, logic, and self-awareness. The cat and the proto-human don't. To me, the important part of the human is the mind. Not the meat (which from my perspective includes an empty human brain operating with just the lower autonomic functions). From my perspective, the desire to differentiate the human fetus as special has more to do with animal instinct. When I think of things that frighten me, Alzheimers, or major brain damage are about 10,000x worse than death.
well, i agree for the most part with your last sentence. i'm just not sure it's our place to make life/death decisions for those who cannot speak for themselves. and by "those" i mean humans, not felines.
Is there even another instance where that concentration of power is tolerated? All I can think of is convicted capital criminals who have a death sentence and collateral victims of war... and most stand up for those victims.
i've lost count but i can assure you it's been far more than that and i don't even count this as one. anyway, i like finals, i like a lot of people on this bbs, you're not one of them.
