The correct answer would've been "we'll give it our best effort" or something along those lines. Answer a bait question by not answering it. Public Relations 101.

A more political correct answer, may be like this:

We are a young team. We have hearts, hands and young legs. On any given night, we can go out to play against LAL and OKC doing our best.

It's a refreshingly honest answer, to a question I'm sure had thrown him off.

Kevin Martin video and the direct comments to reporter from the original link. There's a LITTLE CONTEXT to consider, and human expressions and mannerisms.

Level headed response, though not a competitive one. And to me not some front office undercutting motive to it.

 

Honestly, he will never be a leader of the team. Honesty doesn't serve him with the above quote when the team is going into a new season aiming for at least a playoff. The team will have to aim for a win, no matter which team you are facing.

 

This may be true, but it doesn't show leadership on his part. Great way to blow rooks confidence when they already look timid, like Lamb.

 

Yes we have the exact same team from last year

and no we didn't compete with OKC or LAL last season or the season before that or the season before that because the last time we were in the playoffs was 2009

 

So a leader would would say we are finals contenders?

 

No, he would be wise enough to not say that either.

 

Man's just being honest and, to be frank, realistic.

This isn't like when McGrady put the team down WHILE we were playing in the playoffs.

No matter what response is given, the truth, a lie, a refusal to answer, whatever, someone is going to make something of it and find room to criticize it.

So imo, it may as well be the truth.
