Agreed. His shooting has been off but it's the preseason, and that's when you address it. Jason Friedman reported that Lin (and Machado) stayed after practice today to do some extra shooting work. That is very encouraging. And Lin's shooting definitely improved in the last game (recall that he had 2 more shots that weren't counted due to Asik's moving screens).

Whose expectations? Lin lovers or Lin haters? If he gets those numbers, he should be getting paid at least 12 mill per year.

I haven't seen yet shake and bake type of jump shots from Lin. Did you? Is that in his arsenal?

To be fair, I think it has to do with the sample number of games also. I am. It ready to declare him great on 25 games where the coach basically let you run the show.

I don't think so unless it's been something he's been working on recently ...

also because of isoMelo. you can't just NOT pass it to the guy when he's already chased your coach away. and because the media was always talking about whether or not Melo and Amare can fit into the whole Linsanity run. Lin sacrificed him own stats to please Melo and Amare. he simply tried to make it all work out and contend, but instead people only look at stats.

That's the thing, though. How is it zero in the Pros? In his only starts he killed it broke records and ranked high in many a statistical category. You just don't believe it.
And c'mon you haven't seen him play save a game or two.

Do you mean like Lins all-star level stats from last year or the assists/ steals/ won-loss record from this year?
#1 steals per game in the league
#4 assists per game in the league
W-L record of 3-1 with a loss coming against the Spurs

But of course you discount those and say he sucks right
His defensive rating is much much higher than most of the pg's you've mentioned and Kyrie's are one of the worst. Stop hatin with ignorance

Meant to say "I am NOT ready to declare him great based on 25 games". If Lin averages 16 points and 9 assists per game for this season with just shooting percentages, I am more than ready to say he is an All-star caliber player. With or without great stats, if Lin can lead Rockets to playoffs, I am also ready to say he is a darn good player. So to be fair, I am giving two options. Until then, the only thing I can reasonably say is that Lin deserves to start in NBA.

What I mean is that the best way to improve is to continue to shoot during preseason games, hopefully confidently, whether he misses or not. He cannot let misses get to his head and become hesitant.

Also, he's been pretty good with assisting during preseason games, even though his shooting has been not up to par. Any fair person should be able to see that Lin does pass pretty well and his play does seem to have an effect of settling down the team.

One thing that I don't like is

that where some people tend to cut down Lin unfairly, Lin fans sometimes cut down other players unfairly. For example, from what I have seen with my own eyes, Felton is not that bad, and I can easily envision him playing decently, and he may even end up scoring more than Lin, although his assist number will not be as high as Lin.

Of course, I agree that LeBron probably plays a PG position better than almost all PGs, so that sort of puts things into perspective on how versatile and great LeBron is compared to all PGs. I mean, if I had to pick my dream PG, and I had a choice between LeBron and Paul, I would pick LeBron even for a PG spot.

You're still expecting a little much.

These are the 2011-12 stats for PG's who will make in the $8M range this year. If you average their stats out and use them as a standard, I'd say something like 11.7 points, 4.8 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.2 steals would be playing within Lin's salary range, JUST from performance. If he gets anywhere near 12/9 or 14/8 he'll be underpaid.

    Player: Points / Assists / Rebounds / Steals / 3PT%
    Mike Conley: 12.7 / 6.5 / 2.5 / 2.2 / .377
    George Hill: 9.6 / 2.9 / 3.0 / 0.8 / .367
    Devin Harris: 11.3 / 5.0 / 1.8 / 1.0 / .362
    Jameer Nelson: 11.9 / 5.7 / 3.2 / 0.7 / .377
    Goran Dragic: 11.7 / 5.3 / 2.5 / 1.3 / .337
    Mo Williams: 13.2 / 3.1 / 1.9 / 1 / .389

Fair. People tend to compare Lin's number with guys getting paid over 10M and claim Lin's overpaid.

This is a fact of life. Won't ever change. Lin himself said that in the eyes of his critics he would always have to perform over and above what is expected in order to be viewed as borderline acceptable.

Anyone watched the Rockets 2012-2013 season projection on NBA TV? Dennis Scott said Lin's numbers would drop because he no longer has Melo, Amare and Novak on his side. I love 3D as a commentator, but come on that train of thoughts just makes no sense at all. Isn't Melo ball supposed to take away Lin's numbers? Now all of sudden Melo was a factor that made Linsanity? Which way is it? It's comical how so many people go out of their ways to put down a guy who has EARNED every inch of his way up here.

If I were Lin I'd send Felton a thank you note for his kind advise, and in the meantime remind him to forward the same target alert to all the other REAL supper stars like Kobe, LeBron, K.D. and Chris Paul etc. That will only be fair :)
