Berkman hates the 'Mickey Mouse League' but he's picking Tigers over Giants.

I would be suprised if the Giants win the World Series. Verlander, Scherzer and Fister are all dealing right now, and Detroit is getting good play from the players around Cabrerra and Fielder like Young, Perralta, Jackson and Infante.

San Fran has good pitching too, but I expect the Tigers pitching to shut down San Fran's bats while the Tigers bats will come up with enough to win games.

    Tigers in 5.

SF has had 6 elimination games and won them all to get to the WS.

    Thats amazing.

I'm going to pick SF to win, because it makes no sense.

It truly does make no sense, but you are just going with their trend so far. I like it.

The Giants seem to thrive when people pick against them, so this should be perfect.

The pitching rotation is truly a mess. Nobody understands what happened to Madison Bumgarner. Lincecum has been a season-long riddle. Even Cain has been in a weird funk (for him) during the playoffs. Here's a random factor for you all, though. Rain is very likely tomorrow. If we get game 1 rained out, it really changes the pitching options for SF.

I also think Texas' own Brandon Belt could surprise some people in this series.

Final thought, for this post anyway: I'm trying to think of the last WS team to come in after this long a lay off, and it might be the 2007 Rockies (?) They came in on a 20-1 streak, having swept the NLCS. They got *hammered* by the Red Sox in game 1, by something like 10+ to 1, and then the Red Sox swept 'em.

Tigers may look kind of rusty in game 1. Hard to say. I don't expect Verlander to do anything but dominate though.

Well, they're officially my NL team now, so go Giants! My sister and her in-laws out in Santa Cruz have had a very rough go of it the last month (someone in the family goes to dr. for groin injury and she passes 9 days later thanks to the cancer she didn't know she had that had spread throughout her body), so I know this is giving them some distraction because they're all huge baseball fans.

RM95, so sorry to hear that about your in-laws. Young person? Kind of everyone's nightmare.

Yeah, the Giants really resonate with this area somehow. Just the goofiness of them all.

I live 3 miles from the park, and I'm on a hill, so we can see the ball park from our window. Half the field lights were on, as of 5:15 a.m. local time. I bet they are sweating bullets about the field because we had a massive deluge last night. I don't see how they could protect the field from the rain we had over the last 8 hours or so. We'll see!

    I'm rooting for Barry Zito.

It has been rough for him in SF. What redemption it would be to beat Verlander and help the Giants to another WS after they left him off their postseason roster last time.

57, but young for her age. A couple weeks before, she climbed a freaking mountain in Canada. Everyone's just still in shock.

There's enough goofy between Pence and Wilson...imagine if he was pitching!

SFG fan here ... so obviously I'm pulling for my team. I was a bit taken aback as too when I heard Zito was starting, but I think (emphasis on "think") Bochy know what he's doing. He's been pretty much on point in the playoffs.

Bumgarner - most folks seem to attribute his issues with arm fatigue. He's a tough kid though, I'm hoping he can put up one quality start in the playoffs.

Lincecum - head case...everyone says his stuff is still there, but it's all mental, which impacts his mechanics.

Cain - agreed that he's only been so-so in this playoffs. I'm not sure what's wrong, but if I had to guess ... it's just a slump. I wouldn't be surprised if he has shut down quality starts in the World Series. Then again, wouldn't be surprised if he didn't.

These Giants are magical. You bet against them at your own risk.

I don't know how many gave them a chance but Giants up 4-0 on Verlander. Incredible.
