Well, when you only send "angry emails" to one conglomerate and not the other, you are picking a side between them. The most effective thing to do is to send angry emails to BOTH.
I don't care. I just want to watch our team that we fund through tax dollars and are fans of. Hey, I have gone through the same thing with the Longhorn Network, but at least UT sports are not owned by a profit seeking billionaire.
Good job. For you and for Morpheus: I don't feel it's my responsibility to do the same. If Les and The Rockets don't care about fans like me, I don't care about them. I'm more interested in DaDakota'ing the GARM on this issue than I am in watching The Rockets at this point. I haven't liked a damn thing Les has done since the controversial Barkley trade (of which I was a fan). Morey's a good drafter but one great coach after another has been unceremoniously shown the door, they tried like hell to get Dwight Howard knowing full well it was a matter of trading all valuable "assets" for a one-year rental (a thing at which I was glad they failed), and most recently before this TV debacle they didn't even try to keep Dragic or Lowry though they are clearly superior to Lin as players. Once again, Les chose money over building the best team he could build. This TV thing is the last straw for me. And unless/until Clutch tells me I'm irritating him by going on about it, I will be going on about it. It's funny to me that in a thread in which I have suddenly become so active, there is no option in the poll for which I can vote. I don't blame Comcast and I don't blame the other providers. They're doing what's best for their bottom line. Les has an additional responsibility, an implied pact with the fans and with the City of Houston, and I place all the blame at his feet.
My main point though is that all of the major providers (except the one invested in it) have failed to get a deal with this new channel. Not one. They're all out for themselves and competing against one another, so you would think that one of them would like to work a deal first. To me that says that they're asking for a lot for the channel. Agree with all of that. That's why I thought it would be wise for them to work out a short-term deal for the channel, but I don't have a clue about the business and all that. It's a good bet though that providers want the long-term deal but can't justify it based on demand for the current value (not much for either the Rockets or Astros) while CSN wants big $$ based on future projections of the Rockets looking like the Lakers and the Astros fielding the Yankees.
GOOD NEWS!!! UVERSE WILL SHOW ROCKETS GAMES AFTER PRE-SEASON. BAD NEWS: For an extra 7$ a month. that's fair enough.
I agree. But let's never forget that every deal that gets made with a provider puts serious money in Les's pocket. And isn't it our primary job as fans to make sure our owner gets as much money as possible? Let's petition everybody to make sure he gets top dollar. Yippee!
I'm picking a side and its not the Rockets/Astros side. The Rockets and Astros wanted their own network, so they could make more money. Problem is, there isnt a huge demand to watch a 107 loss baseball team and a .500 basketball team. TV ratings for both teams dropped significantly over the past couple of seasons. Since so many people seem to be uninterested in the two teams right now, dont you think it would be in their best interest to make sure people who want to see the games can? Or you can do what the Rox/Astros are doing and holding out for a few more $$$ at the risk of pissing off more fans. CSN Houston = Cant See Nothing Houston(if you dont have Comcast.)
Since I'm a Uverse subscriber and since I believe $7/month is reasonable one would think I'd be pleased by this news. My malaise regarding this team though has been growing for years. I know it's an unpopular opinion here but I hated the Gasol deal (don't think it's a good idea to rebuild around a player past his prime) and was glad it got nixed, even if the grounds for nixing itself were highly improper. The Dwight Howard attempt wasn't about the future; it was about money. The Lin over Dragic thing wasn't about building the best possible team; it was about money. And the same is true of all this TV strife. I expect I'll call to add the $7 channel. A lifelong streak of fandom makes it difficult to resist no matter how often I am disappointed by ownership. And then I'll see if I even feel like watching the games anymore. If I do, I'll keep it. If not, I'll discontinue the service.
Link or more details? Is it part of a package, maybe the package that NFL Redzone is on? Or is it $7 for that channel only?
Why not just change providers and help a poor old zillionaire out? I heard that Les is selling off his mansion and moving into his '74 Pinto.
I just called them to cancel but they gave me thsi great news. 7$ is for channel 1753. But they waived my 10$ HD monthly fee.
Did they tell you when it would be available??..as of right now, 1753 is reserved for Fox Sports- Dallas HD
I am calling them now to inquire. I communicated with an online chat representative, and he said yes, but they don't have any idea "when" (whatever that means) and he suggested I call in. I'm speaking now with a rep, but he's a little lost on it (at first claiming they have the channel, but I think he confused it with the old FS Houston). Update: He couldn't find anything. Said they have nothing listed there and nothing under the "in negotiations" area also. Maybe Prince knows who to talk with, but is it possible they confused it with other sports channels? I would think CSN Houston would jump at the announcement if this was definite and I've been contacted by them before.
