Nah, this isn't true. Dierdorf is actually a ****ty announcer. He is the only announcer that I have heard not try to hide his bias. We are just the team he hates. That Saints game last year was horrible, too. You can tell when he was excited (Ravens made a play, Texans committed a penalty), or a little down (when the Texans scored). He pulled out the injury excuse so much for the Ravens, acting like the Ravens O has so many injuries. That guy is terrible as an announcer.

    This was actually said!!!

    Seriously.

In a game where the Ravens were having trouble holding on to the ball, much less scoring points or containing the Texans offense, he actually said 19 points wasn't a big deal.

Good thing the Ravens couldn't hear Dierdorf or they might have made a comeback ;)

ThaShark316_28, I don't think we say this for everyone.

I think I lost count of how many times he thought he said the right thing, but the video replay proved him wrong... here are a couple of examples. "It hits connor Barwin on the chest!"
    [they look at the replay]
    "Well, it hits his arms."

"That's bad news for the DBs who are going to be guilty of pass interference"
    [after seeing the replay]
"... oh, ok, [the flag] is on the offense..."

The Texans offense is clicking on all cylinders:
"The Texans needed Suggs and Lewis out for them to work this well."

Never even gave credit to the offense.

I wonder if he mentioned Suggs... at all... on every play...

KILT Sports Radio 610am and 100.3FM. Marc Vandermeer and Andre Ware. That's what I do even though the timing is usually a few seconds off.

I have learned to live with pretty much any announcing crew, but Dierdorff was just about impossible to listen to.
As someone who doesn't really try to go out of his way to find stuff to complain about, this guy's act was just right in your face.
He kept on and on and on about how injured the Ravens were. Barely ever mentioned how injured the Texans are as well. Maybe not quite as hurt by injuries, but pretty close.

The good news is that out of the remaining games we have on CBS, none of them should feature the #2 CBS broadcasting team:

Buffalo (not a good game, will likely get Eagle or Marv)
    @ Chicago (NBC)
    Jacksonville (bad game)
    @ Detroit (will get Nantz/Simms)
@ Tennessee (bad game --- but if Ten has a favorable record, theres always a chance)
    @ NE (ESPN)
    Indy (bad game)
Minnesota (Fox -- may actually get a top crew for this one if the Vikes stay good).
@ Indy (bad game, last game of season).

I usually give the benefit of the doubt to the TV announcers. However, yesterday's performance by Dierdorf was an embarrassment. I don't know if he has an anti-Texans feeling or what, but CBS should be ashamed of his commentary yesterday.

There was one point during the game when the Ravens were down big he said something to the effect, "the world will continue to revolve."
He was comparing the Ravens loss to the world stopping.

I had a feeling this might occur because CBS issues a press release each week highlighting the two most profile games it will show. The analysts usually give comments on the game. Well, Simms made some comments on Jets/Patriots and Dierdorf gave some comments on Ravens/Texans. In Dierdorf's comments on Baltimore there was a 12 sentence analysis. Pretty good I thought. For his Houston comments, Dierdorf only had one sentence.

The good news is I don't think we'll see Dierdorf do another Texans game in the regular season. The Texans are off next week and Eagle/Fouts have been assigned the Buffalo game in week 9. Week 10 is SNF. Week 11 there's no chance for Dierdorf since there are lots of other good AFC games. Week 12 is Thanksgiving so we'll get Nantz/Simms. Week 13 is a little interesting. If Tennessee is hanging around there might be a chance. However, if the Titans fall off the map, then we'll get somebody lower on the totem pole. Week 14 is MNF. Week 15 there is no chance. Week 16 is a Fox game for the Texans. Week 17 is up in the air. Anything can happen that week, so I won't speculate.

    That is awesome.

    Dan Dierdorf on the Ravens:

What really has gotten everyone’s attention is that they gave up 227 yards rushing to Dallas last week, after giving up 214 yards rushing against Kansas City in Week 5. Once upon a time a lot of teams didn’t even try to run against them. It was futile. I don’t have access to all the statistics, but the number of teams that have given up 227 yards rushing and still won the game are few and far between. That means the Ravens are good enough to overcome. But if I were on a team that had given up that much rushing yardage the last couple of weeks, the Texans running game with Arian Foster is not the team I’d pick to go up against. Right now the Ravens’ defense is hurting and everybody else on the team has to pick up the slack. The pressure is squarely on the shoulders of Joe Flacco, Ray Rice and the offense to bail out the guys that have been carrying them for years. Baltimore has already won one game by the score of 9-6. I don’t know how many more of those they have left in them. It is incumbent upon the Ravens offense to step up. Their defense has gotten it done for years, now it’s the offense’s turn to get it done.
    Dan Dierdorf on the Texans:

The Texans are going to be angry and refocused after giving up 42 points and having their lunch handed to them last week by Green Bay.
    LOL.

I am the absolute *last* person who would ever whine about an announcer; generally, I think said whining is overblown by overly-sensitive fans and I would agree with you...

Having said that, Dierdorf was, flat-out, an embarrassment yesterday to the entire field of broadcasting. It wasn't (necessarily) that he was biased - it was that he was so obviously unprepared. When, during an intriguing, early season, near winner-take-all match-up between the two best teams in the conference, all you can talk about is the miraculous return of Terrell Suggs - a well he went to over and over and over and over again, to the point that, if you didn't know any better, you would have thought Suggs was leading the Ravens to victory instead of being part of a defense that surrendered 43 points (well, 32, technically) - it is painfully obvious you spent the week downing bratwursts and beer, watching Swamp People marathons, and ignoring the feeble demands of your job.

Suggs’ return was a nice, top-of-the-broadcast story. Once Barwin dumped Flacco in the end zone and the hounds had been released, the story definitively became that the Houston Texans were asserting themselves as the definitive best team in the AFC. I would even excuse his borderline-mentally challenged comment about a thorough rear-kicking suddenly becoming a game when the Ravens cut it three TDs (he does, after all, have to sell the game to its audience) if he had just demonstrated even a micro-ounce of insight. But that, apparently, was too much to ask.

You can hate Collinsworth, Gruden, Mayock – but those guys at least do their homework. They would have noted Phillips changing his scheme to work Merciless in as a means to free others to shadow, and effectively shut down Rice; they would have been impressed with the Texans’ picking on the Ravens’ depleted secondary with near pinpoint precision; they would have lauded a turnover-free game; Kubiak’s urgency; the team’s overall response to a national beat down that had many questioning their credentials. Those guys have all their faults – but none of them walk into a game and flaunt utter unprofessionalism they way Dierdorf did yesterday.

Dierdorf is a blowhard that would rather make excuses for the other team rather than give the Texans credit. He'll sit there and sing praises about Suggs/Rothelisberger all day and sound all depressed when the Texans are winning

Vandermeer is absolutely unbearable, one of the worst play by play guys in the business.

Eagle is actually confirmed for the BUF game.

He'll probably be back for the JAX game. I

@ TEN will likely be Marv.

Next time we see those guys(Gumbel and Dierdorf) will probably be in the AFC Divisional round...

I won't be a bit surprised if these games are better than you think, with Indy pushing for a Wild Card spot. That said, we should make it at least two months without Dan. :)

Gruden is corn as hell, but love the energy he brings, AND he prepares better than most. Dierdorf's main mistake was overdoing Suggs. He may not be as smarty pants as others but that was my only problem...Collingsworth otoh...surly demeanor ( insinuating we have only beaten the worst in the NFL - nvm 5 of those teams would not surprise to make the playoffs) , that's who I can't stand
