[abc]‘Homeland’ May Be Lebanon’s Target for Lawsuit

I agree that it is a pathetic law suit. But I do have to make a couple of remarks:

1: Starting pathetic lawsuits is really a western thing to do. Americans should be happy that they finaly do something you can relate to.

2: People underestimate the impact t'shows can have. ofcourse it is cinema, but I think the majortiy of the people who watch these shows actually believe those countries look like that. I think these shows with their stereotypes (both people and environment) do actually a bit of harm in the acceptance of all our differences.

I couln't care less what other countries think about my country, if you believe the way the dutch are portrayed in the movies you would think we all are either drug users, prostitutes or farmers.

I love homeland, and from what ive seen in the show of washington D.C i kinda hope that is an inaccurate portayal as well.

Someone suggested that the concept of a fictional television show is somewhat foreign in Lebanese culture. Is that true?


I think that it would be hard for them to be rewarded for any damages because anyone who honestly its even possible for Beirut or any middle eastern city for that matter, is as dangerous as it is for the characters in the television show, was probably never likely to travel to the middle east or abroad in general. You would have a tough time convincing me, A family who was was contemplating a vacation to Beirut, after hearing or seeing good things about it, would be swayed away from traveling because of the show homeland.

I have heard of much much much crazier lawsuits though. When something that so many people enjoy like Homeland is threatened though people are quick to throw out the frivolous suit tag. Average faces in the crowd are suing each other over much more rediculous things everyday in this country, usually the only persons who come to their defense are paid handsomely for it.

 

Southpark is in for a world of hurt if this (highly doubt it) ever goes anywhere.

I think I will sue the makers of shooter for making Philadelphia a haven for snipers. Or sue Training Day for making LA seem crime riddled. Or sue Source Code cause now people will think bombs are on all the trains.

While Im at it, Ill sue Planet of the Apes cause monkeys look violent. I could go on and on...
