Really cml50? You're just trolling to testify eh? Well... Tell us more! I'm sure it will be well received!
Some more info on how these average IQ estimates were calculated: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IQ_and_the_Wealth_of_Nations Some of the estimates and the methodology are really questionable. I would argue that it's somewhat logical that religion plays a more central role when there is less material wealth - people need something to cling to. That doesn't mean that "more religious = more stupid".
Because you rode the short bus to school? Spoiler Bible Prophecy has nothing to do with science...but you knew that didn't you?
"fundamentalist"? Would you say that adeelsiddiqui is a Muslim "fundamentalist"? Mathloom? Etc. etc. etc.?
after looking at the countries defining the trend, the takeaway from this graph is that Africans have very low IQs and are religious. Not sure you can define the trend by that alone
You're the one asking why Bible prophesy wasn't taught in science class...probably not the dumbest question ever, but certainly in the top 20.
Most of you would call me religious.... but if asked that question as it was phrased, I'd say not important at all. As I define religion, I dislike religion. I think it would be better to get to the heart of it and ask how important is God to you on a daily basis or something along those lines...the word, "religion" has way too much baggage.
Here is a similar graph I found for US states. Weak correlation, actually, especially if you filter out some of the southern states.
yeah, religiosity is so freighted with baggage it is a useless concept. the cliché about being spiritual yet hating organized religion is equally worthless. i'll even go futher and say that agnosticism and atheism hold no value either. why do we use labels, especially ones based on texts written by other people, to define ourselves? if i had to describe myself with one word, i guess i'd call myself a seeker.
before anyone else does it, here's the lyrics to the who song: I've looked under chairs I've looked under tables I've tried to find the key To fifty million fables Chorus: They call me The Seeker I've been searching low and high I won't get to get what I'm after Till the day I die I asked Bobby Dylan I asked The Beatles I asked Timothy Leary But he couldn't help me either Chorus People tend to hate me 'Cause I never smile As I ransack their homes They want to shake my hand Focusing on nowhere Investigating miles I'm a seeker I'm a really desperate man I won't get to get what I'm after Till the day I die I learned how to raise my voice in anger Yeah, but look at my face, ain't this a smile? I'm happy when life's good And when it's bad I cry I've got values but I don't know how or why I'm looking for me You're looking for you We're looking in at each other And we don't know what to do Chorus edit: i didn't think of the song when i used the word until afterwards. maybe i too am unable to think for myself
Everything is happening like its supposed to? But you can't tell us the next big thing until it happens right? Religion is a way to cope with misery, its also a tool for manipulation. 'I lost my job, must be God has a plan'. 'I got a new job, God is so good.' If its a positive event, God is the best, if something bad happens, its because God has other plans. Instead of using logic and rationalization, religious people turn whatever happens into an easy way to cope with whatever is happening. Nothing wrong with that if that's your thing.
you mean logic and reason? rationalization is definitely a coping mechanism. logic and reason certainly can be as well.
i hate to disappoint you, but i'd say i'm spiritual but really not keen on religion of course, you and i are probably defining those terms entirely different.
I think you missed my point. These studies may have been interchangeable "back in the day" but that has not been the case for quite a while. I make no claim that science has it all figured out, but at least the scientific method is based on observable and repeatable testing, unlike philosophy. And by the way, Einstein didn't come along and blow up Newton's work. He showed that the majority of Newton's theories were valid only in that "tiny" slice of experience in which nearly the entire universe exists (e.g., not traveling close to the speed of light and not in the presence of ridiculous concentrations of mass).
not dissapoint. Comes a time when you're driftin' Comes a time when you settle down Comes a light feelin's liftin' Lift that baby right up off the ground. Oh, this old world keeps spinning round It's a wonder tall trees ain't layin' down There comes a time. You and I we were captured We took our souls and we flew away We were right we were giving That's how we kept what we gave away. Oh, this old world keeps spinning round It's a wonder tall trees ain't layin' down There comes a time.
