i dont think it was great Great movie. but in my eyes a plot revolving around a POW camp is going to be interesting to me. i have read a few books like ghost soldiers and a book about how chinese POWs were treated by japanese soldiers and the stuff blows my mind how cruel people can be.
Resevoir Dogs (1992) 6/10 Overrated IMO. Just don't think it was all that good a movie. Story takes too long to develop (and I liked Jackie Brown a lot). All this constant talking and screaming get annoying after a while. Not enough action happening. Rather predictable. Ending sucked. Not terrible of course, but certainly not worthy of a 8.4 (IMDB) rating. Don't hate.
Dialogue is a big part of the allure of that movie. If you don't like dialogue then it's understandable why think it's overrated.
House at the end of the street: 4/10 bad movie Taken 2: 6/10 not as good as the first but decent action scenes..
Argo 8/10 Good movie but for some reason I wasn't feeling much emotions during it. Saw some people crying in the theater at the end. I didn't feel that.
Donnie Brasco (1997) 7/10 Nice flick. Started off a little slow, but very much enjoyable overall. Thought about giving it 8/10 - just lacked that little extra. Would certainly recommend watching it though if you haven't seen it yet.
Perks of being a Wallflower 8.1/10 I enjoyed the movie and thought there were some laugh out loud funny parts.
Looper - 8/10 Really original movie and I really enjoyed the acting, characters, and story. These days, it's very rare to find a movie with true originality, so that alone kind of puts it over the top for me. Only complaint was it was a little all over the place and kind of a chore to follow. Spoiler Also...the telekenisis thing was a little random and kind of unnecessary in my opinion. Kind of found that to be a stretch in story telling Paranormal Activity 4 - 4/10 Serious disappointment. I've been a BIG fan of the Paranormal Activity series over the last 4 years, and I absolutely loved the first 3. A lot of people certainly won't agree with me, but I really thought they were awesome movies. They're not necessarily the scariest movies around, but they always are good for some chilling moments and some pretty good creepy moments. Paranormal Activity 4, however, was seriously lacking in the creepy elements, and it didn't advance the overall storyline for the series in ANY way, shape, or form. It was seriously disappointing because after 4 years, you want the story to start to come together. This was just a lazy effort on the director's part, and I hope they improve on the 5th one. Spoiler The use of the Kinect was lame in my opinion. You knew that the only thing that would POSSIBLY happen with it was it would catch some "unexplainable" movement from the demon. It was just kind of predictable and I didn't think it was effective. Also, the ending was disappointing. The first 3 PA movies had AT LEAST an 8-9 minute ending which built up great tension. This one had an ending that was over in just about 2 minutes! Katie's face turning into a demon was probably the scariest moment of the film, and it really wasn't any special. The colony of the witches coven at the end was just kind of cheesy in my opinion, and it lead to a seriously abrupt ending. I didn't HATE PA4, it was just such a step down from the first 3, making it very disappointing.
Prometheus: 9/10 Really epic. I can't wait for the 2nd and 3rd installments of the this new trilogy. There were a few moments of: "stop taking off your helmet you idiot, you're on an alien planet infested with parasitic creatures", but other than that, great. Seeking a Friend for the End of the World: 6/10 I think Kiera Knightley's character was miscast. Not because she's a bad actress but because she's so much younger than Steve Carrell and it was a little awkward. The laugh's were subtle, and the ending felt rushed. The Campaign: 6/10 This movie had a few good laughs, but it could've been much better. I think Zach Galifianakis really carries it, while Will Ferrell's antics just aren't as funny as they used to be. He's the same character in every movie IMO.
Haha right after I posted that I knew somebody was gonna blast me for that. What I meant was....time travel is a central element to the story. They make that very clear from the get-go. The telekinesis felt a little strange in terms of the story of Looper and I thought it was a bit unnecessary, strictly for the movie Looper.
Austin Film Festival...so far Of movies that'll be wide-released at some point in the future Not Fade Away 6/10 (Opening night movie...a bit of a disappointment, muddled story) It's a Disaster 7.5/10 (Well written, quirky indie satire) Flight 7.5/10 (D. Washington nomination likely; Opening scene incredible, dives into slow, deliberate character study the rest of the way) The Sessions 8/10 (Best Picture Nomination likely; J. Hawkes nomination certain; H. Hunt nomination likely; surprisingly funny movie considering the subject matter) Silver Linings Playbook 9.5/10 (Has to be Best Picture frontrunner; don't laugh, but B. Cooper nomination likely; J. Lawrence nomination certain; De Niro supporting nomination likely; great acting, well-written, good pacing, though predictable ending fun ride getting there)
5/10 for me. Started off pretty decent, but from there it just got worse and worse. I'm not sure whether Ferrell is to blame for that though. I just think it's not very well written/produced. I do agree that it could have been much better. -- The Expendables 2 (2012) 7/10 I really enjoyed this one. Just a badass action movie. Probably not for everyone, so be sure you know what you're getting yourself into.
To be fair....time travel in Looper isn't a spoiler. They make that very clear in all of the trailers and that's a central theme in the movie. It's not some crazy twist that time travel is apart of Looper. No need to get up tight.
