It isn't 3D as in they made a regular game and just fixed the perspective. It has pre-rendered backgrounds.

    You guys remember FF7?

I'm assuming you can see what's being done (the only "3D" thing in that picture is Cloud). Kind of like that, just better done. The background is just a picture, albeit a picture of a rendering. The character is 3D though (much better this time around, no block hands expected).

They could put actual 3D rocks/bridges on top of the background (still with a fixed perspective), although I'd expect that stuff to be "baked" into the 2D pre-rendered image.

It will probably make a lot more sense once they release more stuff. They'll likely show this step-by-step.

Yeah I meant the large objects like the bridge or walls may be actual 3d, meaning you can go behind them, but most of the background would be 2d.

Just making sure. ;) And yeah, there should be lots of actual 3D stuff they can put in the environment, if they want to. Really curious to see how they decide to mix the two.

$3,728,044 at the moment on kickstarter and another 150,000 on paypal according to their stream. I doubt they make it to $4 million, but it's alot closer than I would have imagined even this morning.

Looks like they made $4M. At ~$3.87M on Kickstarter. With Paypal, that should put it over 4M. Still have ~101 minutes left.

I just checked out the feed and looks like 2 kids are running for President.

And there's a skeleton wearing a South Park shirt, sitting in a chair.

Any of you guys spring for anything more than the $20/$25 tier?

I might have gone a little higher.

    A little.

Kickstarter project is over. Official number is $3,986,929. So close to hitting $4M on Kickstarter alone (lost track of Paypal, but it was somewhere around $130K-$150K earlier). Pretty entertaining ending on their stream.

Yeah, they said with Paypal contributions they went over $4.1 million. Incredible.

    Confession time!

I've yet to complete BG1 and BG2. Only played them for short play spans (always get interrupted by life and have difficulties returning). Recently started up a new session though, and hope to get finished with them in the upcoming months.

Have several other games I haven't yet played from these guys (Icewind Dale I&II, Arcanum, Temple of Elemental Evil, etc.). Setting a goal to play them all before Eternity is released.

Hats off to you. I loved the games, but it would be hard for me to go back now and play them, if I hadn't already done it. The fixes made to BG2 would make it hard to go back and play BG 1 again as well.

It seems like they're bringing elements of Arcanum into Project Eternity - wizards and guns? lol. Stuff like that made Arcanum a sleeper hit. Unfortunately, I think I never finished that game due to one game-ending bug. It was still a great game.

I'm playing it with lots of mods. I followed some guide a while back that does lots of stuff. I think one of them lets you play BG1 in the BG2 engine. I forgot if I'm using that one (haven't really played BG2, only BG1, so not much of a reference).

It isn't so bad. I'm enjoying it, 5-10 hours or so in. Last time I played, I also didn't know anything about D&D rules, so some of that stuff threw me off. Understand it better now, which makes things easier.

That's horrible. I think something like that happened to me on my initial playthrough of Planescape Torment years ago (or maybe I also just stopped playing it randomly as well). Was able to replay that in the last few years though, and glad I did.

Will be interesting to see how things change as I go from the older games to the "newer" games (newer means still around 10 years or older). Some of the screens I've seen from Icewind Dale look gorgeous.

Yes, I should have realized that there would be mods now that could fix that stuff. I gobbled them up when they first came out and was going to replay them about 8 years ago, but didn't look for any mods then. That's why I knew I couldn't replay BG 1 again since playing with the changes in BG 2. But I did play BG 2 again and it was fun, and there was plenty of things that I discovered that were a little different than what I'd done before.

I hope you enjoy the games. I thought they were great. IWD is right in line with those as well.

Baldur's Gate is being re-released in an enhanced edition later this year by a different developer on PC, Mac, Ipad, and android: www.baldursgate.com

It's pretty amazing that Project Eternity passed the $4 million mark. Going into yesterday I had serious doubts that they would hit $3.5 million.

Yeah, the re-release look good from what I can tell (think the Obsidian guys have responded positively about it as well). If I hadn't already bought the originals (and had the simple-to-use mod installation guide), I might have waited for that.

It is crazy how impossible $3.5M seemed, just a few days ago. I think most felt confident about $3M, although even that was going to take some work. To end up on ~$4.1M is pretty crazy. The release of the screenshot, along with the constant updates really helped I think. While they started off rough (should have had more available, including stretch goals ready after they reached $1.1M so quickly), they ran a really good Kickstarter project. Other developers should take notice.

    Need more singing Josh Sawyer:
