Indeed. There's not a single coach/player who would ever "tank," just as no employee will purposely hurt his own resume and future earning potential. Only the management can tank. And no one in his right mind would think of this roster as anything other than a tanking roster. McHale has almost nothing to work with. If he can get 42 wins and another 14th pick out of this roster, then it would mean that at least one future star is already currently a Rocket. And if he can't, then we better grab that future star in our next draft.
A better question would be whether K-Mart should be traded and if so, when. I wish Morey would dump him for a future pick and get it over with.
I agree with this post 100% .... Players arent going to purposely lay down and lose. This roster isnt built to be anything more than entertaining .... this much youth , its just about impossible to win with in the NBA. Loads of potential and no experience. If McHale manages to win 42 games with this roster .... he'll deserve coach of the year honors and a fat raise. I'd like to see him moved at some point too and think there is a very high probability he is moved .... But I sure wont mind him inflating his value in the mean time.
play heavy minutes on rookies/parsons and morris. build the young team and get high draft pick at the same time...
You ask as if the Rockets have a choice in the matter. Morey tanked it in the offseason when he got rid of Scola/Lee/Dragic/Lowry/Camby/Dalembert/Budinger. Making the playoffs is no longer an option (nor was it ever, considering our performance the last 3 years).
Rinse and repeat ad nauseum. Problem for me as a fan, is that I get an inferior product in the interim. And to top it off, it's hard to go all in knowing that everyone is on the chopping block and may not be here next year.
The reputation of this team is already trash, lets make it even worse by trying to be the bobcats of the west which basically makes our cap space worthless
If we suck and grab a huge prospect in the draft we're much more likely to attract high profile FAs because of the better outlook for our future. A 1st round exit and 14th pick will not get any FA to say "yea I want to sign here, they made the playoffs". Grabbing a guy like Wiggins, Zeller, Noel or one of the Harrison twins would drastically increase our chances in the FA market in my opinion.
Our cap space is already worthless. Franchise players don't join teams like the Rockets voluntarily. Nobody gives a damn about what a team did two years ago. All that matters is what the future looks like, and if we get a stud franchise player in the draft, that will matter much more down the road than the fact that we won 35 games instead of 20 this season. Losing hurts. I know it does. But if we don't sack up and take our medicine now, it's just going to keep hurting like this. The more we wait, the more we push back the day when we'll be able to contend again and feel good about our team. Trade the vets. Play the rooks. Suck hard until we get a franchise player.
he should have probably put in, 'suprise the entire NBA and win a championship while going undefeated.'
Well, this year is different than the last few. If we tank, great!! If we actually make the playoffs, our rookies must be playing ROTY calibur ball.
