From the three games, it's pretty obvious D-mo is far from the ideal backup to Omer simply because he's not strong enough to defend centers in the league and severely lacks in rebounding abilities. Grego Smith is also undersized, I think we should prioritize getting a backup center over other positions or else we will get shredded everytime Omer takes a rest.
Why did we have to give up Camby that's the question he was so good for us last season Looks like nothing is left in free agency Maybe a gamble on Oden
Let's see how the season goes. We will have draft picks in next years draft. I really don't care if we don't have a quality backup this year.
Camby was receiving lucrative multi-year offers in free agency (3 years, $4.4 mil/year, last year partially guaranteed) and the Rockets would rather have cap room (for this season and beyond), give opportunities to someone younger than 38-years-old and receiving draft picks in return in a S&T.
We are going to have Greg here as a backup. DMo is not a C. Maybe next year we will spend a 16 on a need.
Did anybody else like the D-mo asik combo? Thought with asik's great passing and court vision mixed with d-mo's ability to spread the floor with his range is a good start to a bright future. I do however think that a solid backup center is necessary along with trading some of the power forwards we have.
Maybe McHale should switch the rotation between D-Mo and Patterson. That way Asik and D-Mo would start and Patterson as a backup C?
Only thing is Patterson is in way strong enough to impact the big centers in the league. The chuck wagon's spirit does not exist in him on defense. He has a nice touch but remember him having a hard time with some pf's last year. Hope is defense improves.
playing DMo at center will ruin his development, just like it ruined PPat's i can see DMo potentially as a young Chris Bosh type of player in the future. He will always be thin, but let him maximize his skills againist the 4's in the NBA
