What age differences does the generation gap kick in?

I'm in my early thirties and we had a couple of college interns at work this summer. Every time we have to do some (admittedly basic) calculations one of these cats pulls out their cellphone with a broken ass screen. Just go to Office Depot and get a TI-35, for the love of god.

 

One time I told this kid at work, 'Do you remember that gay beer skit from SNL?"
Kid: Blank stare.
Me: "You know with Adam Sandler, from the early 90s?"
Kid: I wasn't born yet.

Yeah, about right then I realized.

When you talk to someone younger who is all sure fire confident in their knowledge, you realize that they lack experience and should be a whole more humble.

When you start to have true respect for how your parents lived their lives.

 

My gf is 21 and sometimes when I talk about the early 90's, I get a blank stare from her. Or even basic 80's knowledge (now I'm not even an 80's child by any means).

She knows how to make me feel old. Plus she likes the crappy generic music that the radio plays.

One thing I notice is that the Gangnam style reaches all generations and unites us all. My 60+ year old boss even knows how to Gangnam.

 

Where you meet these 21 year olds? Put me in.

 

She was an intern at the office next door to mine. Everyone else was either ugly or old...mad me look good. Interns man, plenty of single hot interns.

Then I just followed the thadeus' advice and the rest is autopilot.

For me - 20 years not after graduation, after STARTING high school

So I'd say 20 years after HS freshman year, 17 years after graduation (age 35 for most), is when you start seeing the real differences of the 15-25 years olds.

5-10 years age difference is decent to start noticing things, but still nothing says generation gap when you're actually JUST old enough to be the current younger crop's PARENTS.

 

I'm 51...it kicked in for me about 12 years ago....

 

I'm 28. When I was a kid, growing up in the George Bush 1 era, Having a Nintendo was the greatest thing ever.

My stepson is 9 and he has Cable TV in his room, a PS3 downstairs, a Wii in his room, his own tablet, and his pretty soon his own cell phone.

We are getting so wired in.

 

I started noticing it in my mid 20's, kids in their teens had no idea what I was talking about in reference to 80's shows. I'm in my mid 30s now, it's more pronounced now.

 

He'll probably have more rep points than you by 12.
