Well, that's two games now. Preseason or not, it is still NBA basketball. Still no Royce White. Why? Oh yeah, conditioning. I am starting to think there is some behind the scenes head-butting going on. If he doesn't play Sunday, then i will know something is wrong. Will Royce go the way of the Squid?
I was thinking that mchale was sending a message to him that to be part of the team he needs to be at practice, condition or no condition he needs to learn to support his team.
McHale is just letting White sweat a little for the way he went about asking for accommodations for his condition. He's trying to show that there are consequences for your actions and you need to be held accountable. Something I agree with personally. I'm glad White's being accommodated by the Rox for his condition, but holding out like that isn't costless. Hopefully he gets put in the next game
McHale seems like someone who would not care as much about medical conditions, especially those that aren't physically in your face, when it comes to practice and showing up. He grew up and played in a different era than today, where an anxiety disorder likely would not have gotten so much attention as it does today. So I don't see it a far stretch that McHale simply saw the Royce situation as an easy way out of deciding which players should get more minutes. Additionally, he does have a point - anxiety or no, Royce really hurt his playing chances by not showing up to practice.
Les Alexander is a racist? I suppose you could make an argument that the goal is to get to the all-non-black team by midseason. Lin, Martin, Parsons, DMo, Asik. We'll be just like the 2005-2009 Astros, and just as bad too! I hope we're just as bad. We could use 2 #1 picks in a row right about now.
Just a punishment from McHale. He probably felt terribly sad from what White did to affect this team as he is the only one who really wanted to draft White by the 16th pick. McHale wants no more DRAMA since Lowry left.
Game 1: He was training/catching up. Game 2: McHale's repercussions for missing first few days of camp. I imagine anyone who missed them would have to sit the first game they were available - not necessarily for punishment, but rather to reward those who have been in camp to practice. I'd be surprised/disappointed if he didn't play next game.
White's condition is unique..... I doubt he can net us something if traded.... the only option is to wait it out
[emphasis added] Is this based on what that agent said in the Grantland video? I think a lot of people are confused by that. I'm pretty sure the agent only meant that the Rockets were the only team that wanted White that high in the draft.
D-Mo has played the last two games after being unable to practice much of training camp because of his infection. McHale is just punishing White.
It's not a punishment to White. It's a reward to the guys that put effort in to practice. Well that's what I think McHale is thinking.
