All in the name of Cap flexibility. Here is one that can put that cap flexibility to good use to help rebuild the team, and get them deep in the lottery next year-

Houston Trades- Kevin Martin, S. Livingston, Marcus Morris, T. Douglas
Houston Recieves- Golden State's 1st Round pick(Top 6 protected), Mo Williams, Marvin Williams

Memphis Trades- Rudy Gay, J. Selby
Memphis Recieves- K. Martin, S. Livingston, M. Morris

Utah Trades- Mo Williams, Marvin Williams, Golden States 1st Rounder
Utah Recieves- Ruday Gay, T. Douglas, J. Selby

    Why Houston does this-

Assuming its February and there is no superstar deal in the works to involve Kevin Martins large salary in. This draft pick might have great value in the summer as a trade asset on draft day or turn into a nice player in the 7 to 10 range. Marvin & Mo Williams will take up a large amount of cap space next season, but the reward could be huge for this team. Potentially 3 lottery picks in one draft.... thats hard to argue with whether it be in a Summer/draft night superstar trade, or to continue the rebuilding process.

    Why Memphis does this-

Cap flexibility first and foremost, and a down season. The West is going to be tough this year, and the Grizzlies just dont have the flexibility to add the veteran players that they need. The addition of Kevin Martin would be like a shot of B12 to a depression victim, and Morris could really have a nice turnaround season this year. Could be a good deal for them.

    Why Utah does this-

Shed bad salary for next year while continuing to rebuild their roster while staying in the playoff race. The addition of Rudy Gay seems like a no brainer short term and long term. Whether they use him as a building block around their young front line in the future or to play a season with the older starting veterans for the shorterm he still seems like a good fit since he has yet to really hit his prime.

Rockets 2013 Summer Roster-(assuming no other major moves)

    PG: Lin, Machado(?TO)
    SG: Lamb, Delfino(?TO)
    SF: Parsons
    PF: Patterson, Jones, White, Johnson(?TO)
    C: Asik, Motiejunas, Smith(?TO)

Thats 12 players under contract for 2013/14 with options on 4 players

    + Potentially 3 lottery picks in the 2013 draft + 2nd rounders.

As a rebuilding team you could be in a much worse situation moving forward.

Kevin Martin + T Jones +CHA 2nd round pick for Al Jefferson.

Utah opens up more minutes for Kanter and Favors while receiving some youth and a starting SG.

Houston gets low post scoring who'd line up nicely next to Asik.

No third rate, band-aid players. We sink or swim with this unit as-is unless a legitmate all-star (like LMA or Harden) or better caliber player becomes available.

Agree with Jayhow. As good as big Al would be on this team he really doesn't fit our long term plans.

Plus, you are pretty much trading expiring for an expiring, AND giving up a young prospect + essentially a late 1st round pick with the Bobcats 2nd rounder.

-Remember, Morey himself said that the Bobcats 2nd rounder actually has better trade value than a 1st round pick with heavy protection. I dont think he's giving that pick & Jones up for a player who might walk next Summer.

While we're at it, let's see if we can get Lebron. He's just rotting in Miami.

How is he rotting on the clippers bench? He is Chris Paul's backup. Plus how are we just going to get him? Trade Lin for him?

Might as well try to trade for Dwight Howard again while we're at it to let him play with Lebron.

Don't forget to pick up Griffin on the way back to Houston.

We aren't going to get a proven all-star...its just not going to happen. The best hope we have is getting a young player that hasn't been in the right situation to develop into an all-star or draft well (which we've done).

best move= KEEP MARTIN, LET HIM EXPIRE AND HAVE ADDITIONAL 12 MILL CAP while having flexibility to add another good player next season.

Rockets direction is about saving $$$ going in to pennypinch mode until star is on market. That wont happen for likely 3 years from now

    Houston and OKC

Seeing these two teams and looking at their current roster situation..

Wouldn't a deal such as Kevin Martin, Patrick Patterson, and Toronto future 1st for James Harden inevitably make perfect sense for both teams?

    Why OKC should do it:

Kevin Martin - Losing the best 6th man in the league who's due for a huge payday (Harden) for a premier scorer/shooter with a game built for a team with a Durant-Westbrook 1-2 punch who demand for the ball and create for the rest on almost every possesion might not be all that bad. Not to mention the value of that expiring contract. Spot up K-Mart!

Patrick Patterson - a solid big off the bench who could also score and rebound aside from Nick Collison.

Toronto future 1st - Could potentially be a top 10 pick and given the history of how OKC have drafted the past few years.. Don't be surprised if they turn this pick into gold as well.

    Why Houston should do it:

    James Harden. Period.
