The defensive scheme in Tampa was kind of designed for him to eat up all the tackles. Their defensive tackles basically siphoned all the plays over to Ruud, who then hit whoever he was supposed to hit. Ruud isn't going to be a game-changer. He's not going to be better than Dobbins in run-stopping, and he's not going to be better than James at diagnosing an offense, but he will certainly be able to come in and help spell both guys on 1st and 2nd down. He will be a good addition in terms of depth, especially since I doubt Wade asks him to do too much in this defense. I like the signing as far as giving Wade another linebacker to help spread out the loss of Cushing.
Let's hope for it, special teams has been subpar for as long as he's been around, and for giving Holliday 3 years to do nothing.

He consistently get us back to 10-15 yd line which won't cut it. And this may just be me on this, but he always seems so close to fumbling the ball everytime he gets it.
I like Ruud more than most here. He can plug the run. I can't argue that he's bounced around and hasn't done much lately but he might fit right into place in this system. He has talent, he has a nose for the ball. Best case scenario - he becomes a full-time starter next year alongside Cushing, and I really do believe he could become that, albeit highly unlikely. At the same time we all know Wade Phillips trusts his guys and prefers his guys so I wouldn't be surprised if Ruud doesn't even see any significant playing time. What happens with Ruud could go either way but it's definitely a good signing. Acquired the best available ILB out there IMO.
saints forum are complaining about ruud because they lost a pick for him. some rumors that ruud was cut because he asked to be cut due to lack of playing time and not performance. also most of them want to pick-up trindon h.
Most of the guy's playing on special team units(pre season) 3rd stringers and guy's fighting to make the team.A lot of those guy's probably didn't even make the teams. I agree with cutting him but the blocking has been horrible on special teams.Nearly every return he had guy's all over him as soon as he caught the ball.
