I'm not saying you're a hater, dude, I'm just saying you're very stubborn, lol. If you want to see more, that's on you, but I'm saying that even based on just 26 games, the historical precedence is there to say that the odds are very good that Lin will perform at a very high level in the future. In fact, in the second article, you can see that 7 of the 8 players that performed similarly to Lin and close to his age and experience level became All-Stars. Also I'm currently working on a program to perform regression analysis on historical data to determine the expected range of Lin's stats had he played a full season. Something to the effect of being able to say, "with 99% confidence, based on Lin's 26 games, had he played a full season, he would have averaged 17.5 +/- 2.3 points, 7.6 +/- 1.2 assists." Of course those aren't the real numbers but I'll let you know when I have them. Hopefully I'll be able to persuade you by then.
It seems like you're taking stuff too personally. I doubt anyone is actually that personally invested in your opinion of Jeremy Lin. You said 26 games was too small a sample size. The links lightningbolt posted directly address the sample size issue (tl;dr: whether it's Lin's first 4 games or his first 26 games, he put up historically significant numbers). What's the problem here?
That sounds pretty awesome. I bet Morey's already done something similar. Some of Lin's advanced stats are pretty stellar and even surprised me. (ex: 3rd most efficient player in the league in isolation plays, after only Chris Paul and James Harden )
This thread is so much crap but the thing I find most offensive is that Strictly poster's patronizing posts about "backwaters" and "boondocks" and the like. I sure hope that one is not from NYC...but, if (s)he is, as a NYer for the past 30 years or so, who grew up in a small town, I apologize for my city producing something as hateful and obnoxious as that. All NYers are, thankfully, NOT like that. smh
I have read enough of Apollo33 and RV6 post on Lin that I don't mind them anymore. Could have placed them on my iggy list, but they sometimes post good stuffs, plus I may miss what they say again about Lin. Had this been not CF, I could have also trash with them same as in ESPN boards. Yeah, I can talk trash to "we've been here before, you are new, I'm real Rockets fan ****s". But then again, CF is not that kind of forum. I bring my trashing in ESPN boards which will be more active once season starts. For old timers, Lin fans are here, because Lin is with the Rockets. Just like Lin, we also care about the Team and win vs. stats. We get to know the rockets roster and root for them ... Heck we (at least me) cheered for Bill Walker and waiting to see if Jerome Jordan can play. It's not all about Lin, it is the wins, the fun and excitement every win bring. Yeah, yeah we will be loosing a lot this season, but I still hope we have some decent wins to celebrate. I don't see Rockets to be last year bobcats bad.
I''m closer to believing than not believing, which i think i've made apparent, so there's no need to try so hard to prove something to me...im just not ready to guarantee he's going to be an all-star, like some are doing. I understand history is on his side, but that doesn't mean there's been a lot of Jeremy Lins in the past. You've got to account for other things, including his injury he's still coming back from and teams adjusting. His whole story of events is too unique to rely so much on the past. People shouldn't be that personally invested in my opinion, that's exactly it. Let it go. It's not going to change it while Lin is scrimmaging his own teammates. I didn't mean to single out lightningbolt, just seemed odd to me that he was still trying to convince me at this point after so much has already been said.
I did that and came up: with 90% confidence, Lin will not do worse than 14.6/5.7 this season. RV6 is entitled to his opinions and beliefs and everyone should respect that instead of convince him otherwise. After all, the best way to sell anything is by attraction instead of promotion!
it's not hard to believe Lin can sustain the same level of play during Linsanity. he's doesn't rely too much on this jumpers, he gets most of his points from dribble penetration. and without an isolation player like Melo, and too many options on offense here in Houston, i can see Lin scoring around 20pts/game. if he continues to penetrate and teams double/triple team him, then his assists numbers will also go up. btw, i've seen lightningbolt's stats some time ago, i don't think he did all this to convince you lol. very impressive non the least.
I said "he would become" - as in "over the course of time" and "after a process" - not "was". See the difference between "He would become the best player" and "He was the best player"? No? Don't make me whip out dictionary.com again if you know what's good for you. Oh please, you're another run-of-the-mill, SAS-indoctrinated Lin critic. All your disses are predictable and come from a script that I can virtually recite letter-perfectly. Let me repeat: all you Lin sceptics are entitled to your opinions about Lin, but don't pretend to know more about him or his game than Lin diehards do. I, for one, wouldn't waste bandwidth trying to convince you of how good or special he is when you'll have a chance to witness it all soon enough. I didn't see where you were getting on, say, apollo's case when he was screaming about how "I f'ing hate Lin fans" simply because someone had created another Lin thread. Guess why I registered to post here? So I could make sure that hate is at least earned. How stupid is it to hate on a group of people for starting threads to talk about a player who's solely responsible for why they're here in the first place? Don't like those threads? Skip them...it's really a total no-brainer. I don't believe I've ever entered a single thread about Olajuwon, Yao or any other putative Houston legend. You can't handle what comes with signing an uber-popular player with even more global appeal than Yao? Tough t*tties. Just don't take it out on his fans and not expect any pushback. As for writing that thesis, can't you see I'm doing it piecemeal instead? Sure, denial is not a river and all that. As I understand it, right after the Lin signing was announced and with his face and name plastered all over rockets.com: 1) Season ticket sales surged - - thanks to Lin fans 2) The Rockets will almost certainly get out of the bottom third on the list of NBA teams' fan attendance records - thanks to Lin fans 3) Pre-orders of Lin's jerseys immediately guaranteed that even without a single so-called superstar on board, the Rockets will have a topseller in the NBA gear sales rankings for the next couple of seasons at least - thanks to Lin fans 4) TC sponsors rushed to renew their deals - thanks to Lin fans 5) ESPN finally remembered the Rockets are still around - thanks to Lin fans who must always be catered to for hits and ratings Since then, the money has kept rolling in and will continue to roll in to make Les Alexander a benign benefactor of the franchise's flailing attempts to become a contender again. All thanks to Lin and his fans.
There are two types of fans on this board: 1.Real Rockets fans 2. Fake Rockets fans You are in the #2.
Dude is deranged . RV6 actually hasn't been all that vitriolic. He might not be "all-in" on Lin but so what? Fans are allowed to criticize and question. Comes with the territory of being a fan.
Hehehe, RV6 stirred a hornet's nest. Good thing apollo33 jump off the thread. However, RV6 almost always wants to have the last say, which i think strictly will counter. Expect this thread to continue until all star break unless one of them stops. lol.
Strictly LOF: "I, for one, wouldn't waste bandwidth trying to convince you of how good or special he is when you'll have a chance to witness it all soon enough." Then STFU. Instead of being a long-winded, pompous know-it-all ass. I'm a Lin fan, too. Just not an obsessed Lin fanatic.
